Now that we have finished posting the Top
5 lists our writers. We are now pleased to present the master list comprised
of the top picks from all of our writer submissions.
Top 8 of 05 Lists
antiMUSIC Top
8 of 2004.
(in case of ties, they are listed alphabetically)
1. Clutch - Robot Hive/Exodus
(3 nominations)
I have to thank Dr Fever for turning
me on to these guys. This album just further proves that they can do no
wrong. Straight ahead kick you in the ass rock n roll! -antiGUY
Another outstanding effort from the kings
of intellectual hard rock. Clutch continues to grow as a band and
develop a unique sound. - Gary
After their number one finish with me last
year, the mighty Clutch has been unseated. Not their most immediately
accessible effort, but maybe the strongest of their storied career.
RN/E just gets better and better with each listen. The video for
"Burning Beard" almost put them over the top. Nothing like crazy
robots in church and flaming facial hair. - Travis

2. Sufjan Stevens - Come on, Feel
the Illinoise (3)
Album of the Year. Another 'happy' album,
but Suf blends enough low-key introspection to have you laughing one minute,
and weeping the next. Brilliance on a shiny disc. - Brodie
Sufjan was a runaway with album of the
year. The disc is great on the whole, but the highest points of this album
are just amazing. In my opinion, "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." is the single best
track of 2005. - Jacob
It's been months since I first heard this
disc, and despite many challengers it remains the best album of the year,
on a different level than anything else released in 2005. The emotional
impact that is sustained throughout the whole album is only approached
by other bands in single songs, and even then very rarely. - Jordan

3. Andrew Bird - Andrew Bird and
the Mysterious Production of Eggs (2)
Andrew Bird is quickly establishing himself
as a great innovator in pop and folk music (not to mention lyricism), and
this might be his best album. A strong album from beginning to end,
and "Fake Palindromes" is a masterpiece. - Jordan

4. Hermano - Dare I Say (2)
Kyuss frontman John Garcia is still the
king of stoner rock and just when you though he couldn't top the first
Hermano album he delivers Dare I Say. If you are even remotely interested
in heavy rock you have to check this CD out. It will make you want to beat
up emo-nerds it's so good! - antiGUY

5. The Mars Volta - Frances The
Mute (2)
The antidote to stale music everywhere.
Early in 2005, TMV dropped an insane concept album slapping music fans
with an indefinable mix of musical styles. Blowing tons of neurons, this
one's a no-brainer for one of the top albums of 2005. Catchy, dark, intense,
and simply powerful, this is the very definition of rock music....for people
who like their rock to be kicking, screaming, and scaring the ignorant
masses as opposed to being dead and decaying in the barren ground. Viva
la Volta! - Mark

6. The New Pornographers - Twin
Cinema (2)
Simply amazing. One of those cds that
you can't help but smile ear-to-ear while listening to. - Jacob

7. Street Dogs - Back to
the World(2)
It's full circle for Travis this year.
Feels like just yesterday I was extolling the virtues of this album, when
in fact, it was like eleven months ago. And it's not often a record
can come out that early in the year and hang at the top for the distance.
Street Dogs just made an almost unimaginable listenable album and backed
it right up with their live show. Sometimes an album just speaks
to you, I guess. Lightning in a bottle. - Travis

8. Tremolo - Love is the Greatest
Revenge (2)
My musical tastes run the gambit but lean
towards the heavier side. Tremolo broke through that the first time I heard
this CD and made me an instant fan. Smart, melodic, with plenty of hooks
to grab your attention, this album is what I feel U2's last few offerings
should have been. My friends got sick of hearing me rave about this
CD but the few that gave it a chance were converted! For me this was the
best CD released in 05 hands down. - Keavin

Jennifer Antony- Lopez: (or is it Lopez- Antony, how does that work?)
'My Life is Better than Yours', this release was the best of the year,
with many personal songs that I still remember, months later! Especially
the part about her "wealth & larger than life persona" she is so proud
of that she rubs it in all her homeguuurls faces, whee!! Have you bought
these yet? If not, hurry up!
