Over the last few weeks of 05 we will be posting our writers' picks for the best of 2005. Each day we posted a new Top 5 list from one of our writers. At the conclusion we will present the master list comprised of the top picks from all of our writer submissions. antiGUY's Top 5 of 05. I was out of the loop for most of 05 but these are the CDs that caught my attention and kept it! Because I don't follow rules, I'm including six (tie for 5th place). 1. Clutch - Robot Hive / Exodus:
I have to thank Dr Fever for turning me on to these guys. This album just
further proves that they can do no wrong. Straight ahead kick you in the
ass rock n roll!
2. The Mars Volta - Frances The
Mute: A very very strange album. While it's not quite as good
as De-Loused, it's still heads and tails above most other releases this
year.
3. Iron Maiden - Death on the
Road: These guys could put out a new live album every year and
they would always kick ass. This one is no exception. Still one of
the best live bands in the world as this CD shows. Up the Irons!
(and screw Sharon!)
4. Beautiful Creatures Deuce:
Shocked? Don't be, this is one piece of a solid hard rock from start
to finish. Sadly this band will probably never get their due but they deserve
any credit and success they manage to get.
5a. Hermano - Dare I Say:
Kyuss frontman John Garcia is still the king of stoner rock and just when
you though he couldn't top the first Hermano album he delivers Dare I Say.
If you are even remotely interested in heavy rock you have to check this
CD out. It will make you want to beat up emo-nerds it's so good!
5b. Tremolo - Love is the Greatest
Revenge: At first I didn't get this one at all. But eventually it caught
on and made me a convert. This is a great rock album with some interesting
lyrics and more hooks than a large fishing village.
