Evile Member Dies While on Tour |
This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.
There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.
It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves. We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

Original KISS Drummer Peter Criss Had Breast Cancer (You Read That Right) |
This is Breast Cancer awareness month... In '08, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, but with (early detection) my great doctor Alex Swistel & staff and the Lord above, who always looks over me, I am cancer free today!!!
I wanted to let you know men get it like women do. Don't be afraid to let someone know if you have a lump. Do the right thing for you and your loved ones and get it checked. Man or woman, there is no discrimination with breast cancer ... we all don't have nine lives.
Love to all of my Fans. God Bless, Peter Criss

Guns N' Roses Fire Back At Song Theft Accusation |
"The band vigorously contests these claims and intends to respond accordingly," said manager Irving Azoff. "The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of 'ambient noise' in question were provided by a member of the album's production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can't read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one. While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist's work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved."
Azoff concluded by saying that legal representatives of the band and production team would be responding formally soon.
Iron Maiden's Ed Force One Will Fly Again |
The Boeing 757 carried musicians, crew, gear and guests with singer Bruce Dickinson, a qualified airline pilot, at the controls. Rock Radio exclusively revealed in April that Maiden had committed to making a new LP. Now Smallwood has confirmed that, and he also says the Brit-winning band will take to the air again in 2010.
"I'm starting to get my head round what we're going to do next summer. It hasn't been decided yet but we'll do something, so I've got to speak to promoters and agents."
Are There No New Rock Stars? |
In 2008 more than 115,000 albums were released, but only 110 sold more than 250,000 copies, a mere 1,500 topped 10,000 sales, and fewer than 6,000 cracked the 1,000 barrier. He doesn't say so in the article but rather in the comments section that these are based on SoundScan numbers, so it is assumed they are primarily dealing with physical albums sales and not digital. Of course, the folks at the labels who are responsible for signing the acts will most likely point their fingers at "downloaders" as the culprit and not the lack of music that people actually want to buy. That might have something to do with it, especially coming at the end of the decade which probably had the least musical innovation since the advent of Rock and Roll.
- Look back at the top sellers for the year and see if you can spot any innovative NEWER acts?

Another Canadian KISS off? It appears that KISS fans in Canada will be missing all the cool marketing gimmicks surrounding the release of the band's new album. The Untold Story of the Police and the Rise of New Wave Rock |
In contrast to the sugar-coated memoirs already written by individual band members, Walking On The Moon provides a compelling, no-holds-barred account focusing on the personalities behind the personas and the band members' contributions to the group dynamic, an approach that lends an all-too-human dimension to their story.
British writer Chris Campion draws on extensive research and all-new interviews with intimates of the band not only to give readers a rare look at the inner workings of one of the world's most famous pop groups but also to examine their place in music history. In this telling, the epic story of the Police and their attempts to conquer the music world sets the backdrop for a broader examination of the social and cultural changes occurring in the early 1980s that led to the emergence of new wave the genre that emerged from the ruins of punk exploring new wave's avant-garde roots and showing how it became an unwitting player in the collapse of communism.

Martin Popoff, acclaimed Canadian rock critic and author, writes... A heart-wrenching story of death and inspiring uprising, Voivod bounced back from the passing of guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour with a duo of triumphant studio albums - Katorz and Infini - which used Denis' last tracks feverishly recorded as he knew he was not long for this world. New Book Highlight the Tools of Jimi Hendrix's Trade |
How did he do it? So many years later, this is still the question guitar aficionados ask about Jimi Hendrix, whose music was unlike anything heard before or after first strapped on a six-string.
The musical genius that was Jimi Hendrix, however, will always be deeply interconnected to the equipment with which he made his music. And while the music of Jimi Hendrix lives on today, both in its own right and in the work of countless others, the guitars with which he made history have never been definitively cataloged.

The Dudes's Dan Vacon Releases Dojo Workhorse Weapons Grade Romantic |
Since the early rough demos, the regional and online response for Dojo has been overwhelming, prompting Vacon to perform the material live as a solo act. Home-made CDRs were flying off of local consignment shelves and word spread through the Calgary music community building the band into a local super-group of sorts, featuring eclectic instrumentation from lapsteel to cello.
Unable to ignore the public appeal, Vacon was convinced to record a proper full-length album pulling from the "best of" his demoed material with Juno Award winning producer Russell Broom (Sam Roberts, Chixdiggit, Jann Arden). Broom's mission statement was to maintain the haphazard charm of the early home recordings, while adding a more universally accessible sheen. To the surprise and delight of everyone, Weapons Grade Romantic blossomed into something far more affecting than just a "Dudes side project".

Noah and the Whale Release Album In US and Are Hitting The Road |
And in the unlikely event that the songs' lyrical tales aren't vivid enough, Fink has directed a feature-length film on a shoestring budget as a companion piece and is hosting intimate screenings as part of the band's U.S. tour, including a newly announced date at Piano's in New York on Nov. 1, the night before the band plays three consecutive evenings; residency at Mercury Lounge (see full schedule below).
The First Days of Spring is the fruit of a labor Fink began in 2008, an album that was also a film, and as he sees it, vice versa. The album was recorded in London and New York with producer Emery Dobyns (Patti Smith, Antony & The Johnsons). The film was shot on location in London and Surrey with an ensemble cast including model Daisy Lowe.
Crowbar Reissues Coming |
What makes a band truly unique and unforgettable? Obviously there is the music and the songs that for years echo in our minds. This may be followed by a strong, recognizable image or some stunning live performances. While all these factors might just be the case, there is still one more thing worth mentioning, being perhaps the most important factor of all It's the honesty, the sincerity, the passion the thing that transforms bands into legends. And whatever you might try to call it, you will certainly find it in Crowbar - one of the heaviest and most inspiring doom-core groups ever to walk the face of the planet. The band is nowadays considered a living legend of the New Orleans' metal scene, with each release being a masterpiece of sluggish, extremely heavy doom-core sounds, put together in the darkest form known to man.
"Odd Fellows Rest" (1998) One of Crowbar's most extraordinary releases. The album started off with a true Crowbar classic "Planets Collide" a slow-paced and extremely melodic tune, which showcased the band's incredible progress. The rest of the material was kept in the typical Crowbar fashion, with the exceptions of "Scattered Pieces Lay" and "Behind the Black Horizon" (both of which featured melodic dual vocal tracks), as well as two tracks clearly inspired by southern metal: "New Man Born" (sounding like a heavier Down tune) and "Odd Fellows Rest" (comparable to Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan"!). New edition includes a hidden bonus track.

Inhale Exhale Week: Day Three |
Ryland Raus: This song speaks about friendship. It explains the fight of actually being an understanding and truly genuine friend. Inspired by a longtime friend of mine, I tried to capture every angle possible. The main angle of it is from an outside perspective peering into a world of lies, hard times and mistakes.
John LaRussa: I experimented with this song. I wanted to capture the melodic side of what Inhale Exhale has established, but add the raw energy that we were shooting for on this album. I wanted to leave room for Ryland to open up with his vocals which he did, in my opinion.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
