(CMJ) CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival, New York's largest music event and one of the world's most important showcases of new music artists, is announcing its full lineup for this year's event throughout online at www.cmj.com/marathon.
Performing artists this year include: Broadcast; School of Seven Bells, Busta Rhymes, M�m, Zac Brown Band, Atlas Sound, Saul Williams, Japandroids, Pitbull, Hercules Love Affair, 69 Eyes, Julian Marley, Pig Destroyer, The Very Best, Teo Leo + Pharmacists, Deer Tick, Margaret Cho, U-God, Portugal. The Man, Joan As Police Woman, A-Trak, Midnight Juggernauts, Superdrag, The xx, The Temper Trap, Speech Debelle, Crystal Antlers, Yacht, Flying Machines, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Malajube, Kidz In The Hall, Laura Marling, The Foreign Exchange, The Antlers, Diane Birch, Bear Hands, Rain Machine, Local Natives, Fanfarlo, Das Racist, Free Energy, Real Estate, Suckers, Pissed Jeans, Screaming Females and hundreds more.
CMJ 2009 will also feature performing artists from 25 international territories including: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and United Kingdom.
CMJ Film Festival selections include: The Men Who Stare at Goats, starring George Clooney and Ewan MacGregor, playing Wednesday, October 21st at 7 pm and The Messenger, starring Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster, playing Friday, October 23, at 7 pm. Harrelson will host a Q&A session following the screening.
Recently announced panelists include: Rakim Allah (hip-hop artist), Andrew W.K. (artist), Emmanuel Jal (hip hop artist/activist), Vincent Wilburn Jr. (of Miles Davis' Estate), Fred Mascherino (formerly of Taking Back Sunday), Bob Boilen, (NPR's "All Songs Considered), Jeff Price (CEO/Founder of Lala), Traa Daniels (P.O.D.), Jarrod Gorbel (The Honorary Title), Chris Jacobs (Sub Pop Records), Tim Quirk (Rhapsody America) and hundreds more.
CMJ Music Marathon 2009 is highlighting the best new music first, featuring performances from artists that span genres including alternative, rock, electronic, hip-hop, metal, Americana, world, jazz and so much more. Featured showcases this year include: Thursday at Comix - Secret Comedy Central Comedians Show (one night of secret A-list comedians from Comedy Central); Friday at Fontana's - Relapse (record label) Showcase featuring: Revocation, HOWL; Wed at Le Poisson Rouge - Cantaloupe/New Amsterdam Showcase (contemporary classical music) featuring: David Lang, The NOW Ensemble, Julia Wolfe (performing bagpipe piece, "Lad"), D'Arcy James Argue's Secret Society; Thurs at B.B. Kings - A Celebration For Roc Raida (a benefit for his bereaved family) feat. X-Ecutioners, DJ A-Trak, Busta Rhymes; Friday at Hiro Ballroom - Band reunions - The Bongos, The Fleshtones.
CMJ Music Marathon is partnering with the Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Members of the storied musical's team will discuss the new, exhilarating production as part of the panel discussion program on Friday October 23, 2009, at 2:15pm at NYU's Kimmel Center, alongside an invigorating musical performance for CMJ Music Marathon attendees. A limited number of tickets to the full Broadway production at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre will be made available during the week of the event.
Also as a part of this year's festival, CMJ Music Marathon 2009 has entered into an exclusive partnership with Best Buy Musical Instruments Store as a presenting sponsor of this year's event.
CMJ draws tens of thousands of professionals from all sectors of the music and film industry. More than 1,300 artists and over 120,000 music fans will converge on the Big Apple to catch the latest buzz band, cool indie film or learn more about the ever-changing music industry from key innovators, insiders and celebrities.
CMJ Music Marathon takes over 75 venues across Manhattan, Brooklyn and surrounding environs presenting a dazzling array of new music from around the globe. CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival's daytime events will include panels, keynote speeches, the annual College Day gathering, the CMJ CLE Continuing Legal Education symposium, mentoring sessions, tutorials, the Artists' Lounge and Gifting Suite for musicians and a sizzling, interactive registrants' lounge lifestyle area, all of which will be held exclusively in and around New York University.
