D.O.A. Kings Of Punk, Hockey And Beer |
So that's what this is, D.O.A. go back to their roots. They invented the "HOCKEY ROCK" genre with their break though Taking Care of Business video in 1987, that featured BTO guitarist RANDY BACHMAN. (Of course all due credit going to PHIL ESPOSITO and MARCEL DIONNE for their "interesting" attempt at hockey rock in the early 70's).
The band then formed their own team, THE D.O.A. MURDER SQUAD, perpetual champions of the V.M.H.L., out scoring rival hockey bands like BAD RELIGION, THE HANSON BROTHERS and SNFU, and roughing them up just for fun.

Hawksley Workman Plots U.S. Invasion |
The tour kicks off October 20th at San Francisco's Caf Du Nord, as well as the first ever U.S. release of his landmark 2000 debut album "For Him And The Girls," set for release November 17, 2009 on Hawksley's own Isadora Records.
Written, produced, and performed by Hawksley himself, "For Him and the Girls" blends beautifully penned lyrics and clanky-folk tunes with fresh-faced pop. From the opener ("Maniacs"), where yodels are swathed in distortion and guitars, to the Beatles-esque tunes ("Sad House Daddy") that move like a speakeasy regular's lusty poetry ("Tarantulove"), the entire record bursts with beauty and energy.

Ask Nublu owner/curator and musician Ilhan Ersahin why he created a jazz festival, and he jovially comments, "Nublu is a continuation of the jazz culture, it has the spirit of jazz with a sound that is relevant today, and we're filling in a gap that we think is missing."
