In a late 2008 magazine interview Mat stated about the new disc "I'm not saying this will be the next Necrophagist or Burzum but it's going to be a lot more aggressive and heavier than the others. But I am confident fans will enjoy it as we are 200% prepared so we know what to include and not to include. We've always intended to make a heavy album and this is our time." I didn't hear this when listening to the disc, besides a few crunching riffs and the f bomb being dropped a couple times there's nothing very heavy or aggressive. This however may be due to the fact that the band was rushed contractually to get an album out this summer by their new label Original Signal Recordings. Maybe we'll hear the heavy aggressiveness on the next album. Aside from that, the tunes on Wake Up The Sleepers will hold their own especially with the already fans of the band. The songs have a futuristic sonic feel with electronic computerized accents and Devine's almost emoish lyrics. The lead track "Radio" has Mat singing about his childhood dream to be on the radio(check mark, succeeded that goal). "New York City Speed" is another of my favorite songs off the disc with an almost disco beat and strong guitar breaks, the heaviest and maybe my favorite tune on the album is "Mouth To Mouth" and all though being a little heavier it doesn't loose that electronica feel.
All in all, I think the disc will do ok, there's nothing really new or very different from other Kill Hannah music but there's enough catchy danceable songs on here that I'm sure I will be playing the disc again. Any fans of Kill Hannah will be happy with this effort and I'm sure will be picking the disc up.
Useless Info: The name Kill Hannah came from the fallout of lead singer Mat Devine and his then girlfriend. (I wonder if they're still friends).
