Portugal. The Man Week: Day 3 |
"Colors" was a song we had around for quite a while but didn't really bloom completely until the recording. John had written it outside the Ottobar in Baltimore on an acoustic and Zach and I just started adding in harmonies and such. I think this was the first song where both Zach and I sing with John for almost the entire song which is something that ended up being prominent throughout most of the record.
As the recording of the song progressed throughout the day it just started coming together. The beat Jason played gives it an added intensity and makes fall closer to the side of a rock song. Phil and his sister Tori did all the strings and that really brings out the beauty of the song itself. Its also fun to sing really high (pitched), I think we all enjoy that. Colors being the central them of the record as well, this song is important to the album as a whole.
