The Johnny Cash TV Show Coming To DVD |
But the announcement that the ultra-camera-wary, reclusive Bob Dylan was to be Johnny's guest on the first show (which was actually taped on May 1st) placed the premiere on an entirely different historical platform. The two songs performed live by Dylan were both from Nashville Skyline, his brand new April LP release on Columbia the single "I Threw It All Away," and a reprise of his duet with Cash on Bob's vintage "Girl of the North Country," which dated back to 1963, when they first met.
Those two performances, preceded by Johnny's own "Ring Of Fire," kick off THE BEST OF THE JOHNNY CASH TV SHOW, a long-overdue compilation of archived treasures from the run of 58 shows through May 1971. The collection of 66 live performances, hosted by Kris Kristofferson (whose "Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again)" follows the Dylan clips), with voice-over by Will Lyman (of Frontline) has been gathered onto two DVDs and will arrive in stores September 18th on CMV/Columbia//Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. - more on this story
Diana Krall TV |
Krall, who performed on Live with Regis & Kelly Monday morning, will also revisit these selections from her illustrious 14 year career with appearances on The Tonight Show on 9/24 and the Late and Late, Show w/ Craig Ferguson on 10/5.
Pulling out many tunes from the 'Best Of' during her sets, some of which she hasn't played in 5 years, critics raved, "Krall is the best thing that ever happened to American song" (Hollywood Reporter, 8.20.07). The new record celebrates selections from six albums of the multi-platinum vocalist's repertoire, and debuts three previously unreleased songs "Only The Lonely" (from 'The Look of Love' sessions), "You Go To My Head" (from 'The Look of Love' sessions) and Tom Waits' "The Heart of Saturday Night" (from 'The Girl In The Other Room' sessions). Listen to the latter song - here.

Steve Goldberg and The Arch Enemies Go West |
The Arch Enemies first materialized as a rotating cast of live backing musicians for Pittsburgh pop auteur and music student Steve Goldberg who was studying music composition and creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University. It began innocently, as these stories often do, with a trumpet here or a violin there. But before he knew it, Goldberg was living on the outskirts of London and performing with a tuba player named King Wang. It wasn't long before he got to experimenting with string quartets.
And it was there, under the influence of meat pies, ale, and low brass, that most of the songs that would become Steve Goldberg and The Arch Enemies were conceived.- more on this story
