Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger Review
by Zane Ewton
.
Ryan Adams is a hard working son of a gun. He is producing other people's records and recording himself, all on his own timeline. Which in relation to the current music business is fast and furious. At this point, it is not altogether original as well.
Adams produced Willie Nelson's Songbird album, which is a great record. However, if you are going to produce Willie Nelson, you probably do not have to do much beyond turn on the microphone and get out of the way.
With Easy Tiger, Adams relies on all the trappings he has employed for years now. He is the brokenhearted, down home working man. Adams plays the role well and he knows how to put an effective song together.
Easy Tiger is another in a line of fine records for Ryan Adams. One more notch in a row of decent, respectable records. This one does not illicit a strong response either good or bad. Maybe that is the problem with Ryan Adams. He is drearily consistent.
The potential for something classic lurks inside him but maybe he just has to purge whatever it is that makes him repeatedly write the same two or three songs. It is hard to fault a musician for being consistent but easy to fault him for being consistently boring.
