Avril Stole Another Song? - Top Story of 07
Hecklerspray reports: Avril Lavigne is slap-bang in the middle of the biggest critical thumping of her life at the moment, thanks to The Rubinoos claiming that one of their songs was stolen by Avril Lavigne for her super annoyo-hit Girlfriend - but that's not the end.

Because now it seems as if Avril Lavigne has been borrowing bits of other songs to use as her own, also. Following the claim by The Rubinoos that the "Hey! Hey! You! You!" hook from Avril's Girlfriend was stolen from the "Hey! Hey! You! You!" hook from their I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, it's now emerged that Avril Lavigne's I Don't Have To Try seems to be a carbon copy of I'm The Kinda by bearded sex-kraken Peaches. Avril Lavigne has yet to respond to this new ripping-off claim, but the question remains - if Avril Lavigne does keep ripping off other people's songs, then why can't she make any of them sound any good?

An interesting aside. Canada.com reports that Advil named "I'm The Kinda" as one of her five favorite songs in the July issue of InStyle. It will be interesting to hear her say she never heard it before. Then again, this might just be the most punk rock thing she has ever done, silly ties and dirty hair aside.- more on this story

"What's up guys? Just wanted to fill you in on what's going on. I regrettably had to postpone some shows, because I'm not feeling well and haven't felt 100% since November when I left the Godsmack tour four days early.

I'm a private person, and I would like to keep my personal health to myself but I wanted to go on the record and tell everyone that this is nothing drug or alcohol related. As a matter a fact I have been completely clean and sober for 7 months. I'm working on seeing the best doctors and exploring every avenue possible to fixing this. - more on this story

Blabbermouth reports: As a child of 11, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett watched in horror as his pet dog Tippy was penetrated by the guy next door. That's just one of many jaw-dropping facts we learn about ultimate rock monsters METALLICA in the new issue of British magazine Q.

Frontman Brian Johnson spoke with Daily Record as The Classic Rock Cares tour rolled through town and asked him about plans for AC/DC. It's been half a decade since their last effort "Stiff Upper Lip" hit stores and almost as long since the world's great live rock n' roll band took their show on the road.

Classic Hard Rock Still Strong - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: It seems that people are opting for classic hard rock and metal CDs over most generic "new" music. This according to a report by the Associated Press. While record companies try to fathom reasons why people aren't buying their "new" product, by ignoring the most logical explanation and looking to court tweens to help pick up their bottom lines, it appears that music from other eras where A&R people took chances on bands that didn't sound like everyone else and bands were allowed to develop a fanbase over several albums is still attracting a lot of buyers.

Twenty-Seven years after its release, AC/DC's Back in Black is still selling almost enough copies a year to qualify for a gold record. Last year while we were treated to dozens of sound-alike emo bands that didn't sell many CDs, AC/DC's landmark album managed to sell 440,000 copies in the US.

While [insert silly multi-worded name here] was struggling to attract the attention of TRL girls, other albums from long-ago were also moving pretty heavy numbers. Metallica's jump to the commercial mainstream, aka The Black Album was added to the CD collections of 275,000 US music fans last year and Guns 'N Roses debut which broke records when it was released in 1987 is still a hot seller, welcoming 113,000 more people to the jungle last year. And the album that killed "hair metal" and touched off the grunge trend of the early 90s (Nirvana's Nevermind) is still going strong with 143,000 copies sold last year.- - more on this story

BBC Apologizes to "Metalica" Fans - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: When you are apologizing to fans of a band it is usually a good idea to spell the name of the band correctly. UK metalheads were a bit miffed at the BBC coverage of Live Earth because the producers decided to cut away mid-song from Metallica's performance at Wembley stadium in favor of Crowded House in Sydney.

In other words, the network upset some of the very few people that actually tuned in to the "world changing" event.

The move prompted protest from a few hundred Metallica fans, so the BBC issued an apology and explanation for this decision. According to the Guardian "The BBC was at pains to point out that the decision was not taken out of 'prejudice about heavy metal music or any other music'."- more on this story

Fall Out Baby? - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: It was a pretty dead day for real music news but children's entertainment had some hefty headlines with a reported leak of the ending to the final Harry Potter book (he falls in love with Clay Aiken) and news of a Fall Out Baby.

Will the world soon welcome an eye shadow wearing, lip-synching, emo love child? According to a host of always reliable tabloids the answer is yes. Pete Wentz has reportedly proven his manhood by knocking up Ashlee Simpson. Of course, this news comes from the sources that give us UFO sightings and the adventures of rabbit boy.

The tabs took it one step further and reported that Wentz will do the honorable thing and wed the lip-synching popstar. The couple were reportedly engaged under of the romantic backdrop of New Jersey during the Live Earth debacle. However, the mime's representatives told USmagazine.com that the engagement story was "absolutely not true." However, contrary to some reports, the pregnancy was not denied in the USmagazine.com story, who also broke the ground breaking story today that Tori Spelling lost 22 pounds. Yes, we were shocked too as soon as we remembered who she was, shocked that they are still covering her.- but did they deny the bun in the oven? find out here

Jovi Vs Java - Top Story of 07
AP reports: Jon Bon Jovi wants the owner of the Mijovi energy drink to change its name, arguing it is too similar to his famous moniker.

But Marcos Carrington says his coffee-based energy drink is named after his girlfriend, whose name is Jovita, not the 45-year-old rocker.

In a Jan. 22 letter, Los Angeles lawyer Peter Laird, representing Bon Jovi, objected to the word "Mijovi" as well as other words "itsmijovi" and "itsmilife" that appear in the company's marketing materials and on the can. Rather than use Carrington's spelling, the letter used the phrases, "It's My Jovi" and "It's My Life."- more on this story

Clarkson Backtracks on Clive Feud - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: Remember when we said that we're going to give Kelly Clarkson the hero of the year award for standing up to Clive Davis? We take it back after the pop singer took to her website to take back her recent comments about her feud with Davis over putting her own songs on her new album "My December".

In fact, Kelly has done a bit of a flip-flop from "You're 80. You're not supposed to like my album" stance to kissing the geriatric label heads large rear. On her website she writes: " There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the release of "My December," much of which has focused on a supposed feud with my record label, in particular, Clive Davis.

I want to set the record straight on this by saying that I want my band, my advisors, those close to me and my record label to be one big, tightly knit family. Like any family we will disagree and argue sometimes but, in the end, it's respect and admiration that will keep us together.

Inane Lyrics Land Sum 41 in Trouble - Top Story of 07
Contact Music reports: Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley was threatened with deportation from the U.S. after a journalist took offence at negative lyrics he wrote about President George W. Bush. The Canadian rockers' song March of the Dogs contains the words: "The president of the United States of America is dead... And now the president's dead/ Because they blew off his head..." [such deep thinkers]

And one writer went to extreme lengths to have the band removed from the country over the controversial words - by calling on politicians to exercise their power against Sum 41.

Whibley explains, "He (the reporter) went to the House minority leader in the States (a Republican), who tried to have me deported, trying to say I'm threatening the president." [what no name for this reporter?]- more on this story

Beer Saves Band - Top Story of 07
PR reports: Late Friday night while driving to Calgary the members in National Product totaled their van. Luckily everyone in the band is fine. The following is written by singer Danny Casler:

Long story short, we were driving from an amazing show in Regina to Calgary . We started to smell brakes burning and assumed it was the semi truck in front of us. As we were coming down the hill going about 70+ mph our driver mentioned that he felt we were losing power and not more than 30 seconds after that our van slammed to the pavement and we started to fish-tale with a full trailer. Everybody was scared to death just from the slamming down. We thought our tire blew. T

hat's when we looked out the window, still skidding 150 yards towards a revine/stream and light pole, and we saw OUR tire on FIRE rolling past us. We finally came to a stop and our breakwell completely burst into flames and the majority of the dudes took off. Our tour manager and I grabbed the cooler which contained melted ice, 5 Pabst Blue Ribbons and a bottle of water.-

Beyonce Faceplant - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: "Beyonce Knowles made a dramatic misstep when she fell face-first down a flight of stairs during a concert," according to AP. Hecklerspray took the story a bit further and provided an eyewitness statement, plus news that Sony was doing its best to clear video footage of the faceplant off of the web.

Here is part of the Hecklerspray starting with the witness statement: "We saw that she was pumping her hair around and really into (it) with her trench coat and high heels and as she proceeded to come down the stairs, she tripped on her coat and it seems like she fell on her collarbone and face, sliding down about 12 stairs."

There are conflicting reports as to whether the singer was hurt or not - one claim is that blood was seen. Other claims have it Beyonce was completely protected in the fall by her robot-like outer shell which she replaced her skin with at the age of six. Yet other reports depict Knowles saving herself by wrapping her 15' lizard tongue around a light-rig real quick. Personally we believe the latter.

Whatever happened, we may never know for sure. Unless you watch it. Better click play - looks like Sony's smiting the footage from off the web.- more on this story

GNR Members Reunite At Anniversary Show - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: Axl wasn't on hand but the other members of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup did attend the 20th anniversary party for their landmark debut "Appetite for Destruction," which took place at the Key Club in Hollywood on Saturday night.

Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan joined Steven Adler's band (Adler's Appetite) during their set to perform "Mr. Brownstone" and "Paradise City". There are some reports that Slash attended the event but did not join the band on stage. We were supposed to attend the event but due to unforeseen circumstance we were unable to so we can not give you a first hand report of the reunion. But we're working on getting comment from the band.

This was the reportedly the first time that Stradlin, McKagan and Alder have performed together since Adler left Guns N' Roses in 1990. Tracii Guns, the guns in Guns N' Roses, also performed a set with his classic lineup of LA Guns. To mark the anniversary we have posted a special edition of our classics series.

"My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute, where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern," Stanley wrote on his site.

Deerhunter Robbed Following Gig - Top Story of 07
antiMusic reports: Atlanta noise rockers Deerhunter became the hunted Friday night at their homecoming gig. The band had just concluded a performance at Lenny's in Atlanta when lead singer Bradford Cox and guitarist Lockett Pundt were robbed at gunpoint.

Cox described what happened on his blog: We got a friendly homecoming surprise last night in Atlanta when Lockett and I got robbed at gunpoint after our show at Lenny's last night. We literally had just walked off the stage and I was pretty wasted. Lockett was trying to take care of me and get me home.

He grabbed my guitar and my stuff and we walked to his car which was parked about a block away from Lenny's because it was so crowded. I heard a commotion behind us but like I said I was pretty out of it. I just opened the door to the car and collapsed in the passenger seat. Then I heard all this yelling and I hear this loud metallic banging on the window and look up and there is a gun in my face and a guy yelling "get the f*ck out the car man"- more on this story
