Bad Brains Remember CBGB's Kristal
PR reports: Bad Brains want to express sincere condolences to the family of Hilly Kristal at this time. Hilly and CBGB's have been instrumental in the band's life and Bad Brains' Darryl Jenifer issued the following statement on behalf of the band:

"The Brains didn't go to college... CBGB's was our university. Hilly was our head master. And although the music died back in the 50's with Holly and Richie...the punk lives with Hilly, Joey, Stiv and CB's. Forever is the spirit of Hilly and his punk rock. Thanks Hilly, we will all ways remember you as the don of punk and the king of the bowery...that
serious looking nice guy....Jah lives... the Bad Brains."

Bad Brains' legacy is best defined by their frenetic and legendary live shows immortalized at CBGB's. Along with The Ramones and many other American punk groups, the band cut their chops and were allowed the freedom to explore at this club. Check out one of the performances

Get Hurt Again
PR reports: HURT follows up 2006's Vol. 1--and the Top 20 Active Rock hits "Rapture" and "Falls Apart"--with the intense and multi-faceted Vol. II, being released on September 25th by Capitol Records. Singer J. Loren has simple but potent goals for Vol. II and Hurt: "I want our music to invoke feeling. Period. If listeners feel good, if it compels them to tearsthat's our goal." The band will begin a short tour in support of Vol. II on September 22nd at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle in Pittsburgh, PA..

The lead single, "Ten Ton Brick," furthers Hurt's signature post-grunge alt-metal sound with a melodic melding of aggression and frustration with soaring harmonies, quieter interludes and intelligent, affecting lyrics. The Los Angeles-based quartet earned raves for their "gothic, confessional, soul-searching" songs and the ebb and flow of "heavy guitars, acoustic strums and symphonic samples, whispered vocals, and guttural screams." And those musical and lyrical qualities are even more intense on Vol. II. - more info, tracklist and tour dates

Fall from Grace Tshirt Operation
PR reports: Seattle based rock band, Fall from Grace (FFG) have climbed to the top of 7,000 bands in a nationwide competition for America's best unsigned band. The competition turned into a reality TV show hit airing weekly on Fuse TV, www.fuse.tv. Bodog Music Battle of the Bands is the story of 10 unsigned bands touring the country as they vie for a $1 million record deal. Battle finalists FFG, will use their new-found TV audience and this opportunity to help America's Wounded Warriors by joining forces with Operation Ward 57.

The four young rockers of FFG were moved when approached by personal friend and founder of the national fund/awareness raising effort, Deborah Semer. Ward 57 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington DC, home of "Warrior Care" is filled with those that have been torn apart both physically and mentally from the Iraq war. They are taking months to recover only to be discharged to substandard housing for even more recovery time, with some taking years. This is the Ward of the forgotten.

Members and fans of Seattle's FFG will wear the WARD 57 T-shirts during their upcoming promo events, rehearsals and at the live TV finale in Los Angeles on Sept. 5th at the House of Blues. Whether they win or not is up to America, however FFG is committed to educating and recruiting other musicians to support the efforts of OPERATION WARD 57.

The Exies Call In Sick
PR reports: The Exies' vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Scott Stevens has been ordered off the road by doctors to avoid severely damaging his vocal chords. The singer began having difficulties during the group's current run with platinum-selling Texas rock band Drowning Pool in support of its recently released A Modern Way of Living With the Truth. It's their first album since 2004.

Stevens has been battling throat problems since shortly after the beginning of the tour in Englewood, CO on August 12. After the Mechanicsburg, PA performance on Monday, Stevens realized he had to see a doctor. Yesterday he visited Dr. George Newsome, a local ear, nose, and throat specialist who said that Stevens' vocals chords had the same consistency as hamburger meat and suggested the vocalist take a break to rest immediately before there is irreparable damage done.- see the dates that were killed and when they resume

Firefall Credit Due?
PR reports: Larry Burnett's publicist sent us over an email about the "Colorado To Liverpool an Acoustic Tribute To The Beatles" story that ran on Wednesday. In that story based on a press release, Burnett's publicist says inaccurate credit was given. Here is what Burnett's publicist tells us "Jock Bartley and Steven Weinmeister are not the lead vocalists of rock legends Firefall. They are the current singers in the Firefall ghost band of which Jock Bartley is the only original member...and he was then the lead guitarist and sang some background vocals, not the lead vocalist."

All Music Guide says of the lineup: The group was formed by former Flying Burrito Brother Rick Roberts, who handled vocals, guitar, and most of the songwriting duties; he was joined by fellow ex-Burrito and Byrd Michael Clarke on drums, ex-Spirit and Jo Jo Gunne bassist Mark Andes, guitarist/vocalist Jock Bartley, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Larry Burnett, and keyboardist/woodwind player David Muse, who joined in 1977

We were also sent an update on what Burnett is up to at the moment- read part of the update here
