Oasis Documentary 'Supersonic' Coming In October

(Radio.com) The contentious relationship between Oasis' Noel and Liam Gallagher means they won't be appearing onscreen together in a new documentary about the band, but that hasn't stopped the filmmakers from making the movie.

Supersonic will chart Oasis' success, breakup and aftermath, and comes from the team who produced the critically acclaimed Amy Winehouse documentary Amy, reported NME. Mat Whitecross will direct the film and Amy director Asif Kapadia will serve as executive-director.

Rather than include talking head videos interspersed with archival footage like many documentaries, Supersonic will feature only quotes from and about the band members.

"It seems like Liam and Noel are in the same room, like they're having a conversation," said Whitecross. Read more here.

Banks and Steelz Talk Florence Welch Collaboration

(Radio.com) Banks and Steelz, the new project from Interpol's Paul Banks and RZA, will be dropping their album Anything But Words at the end of August and they are particularly excited about a song they did with Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine.

RZA described the collab, "Wild Season," as one of the record's "strong songs" in a new interview with NME. Anything But Words features lots of rap names, but Welch is the only vocalist. It turns out she ran into Banks when he was wrapping up a tour last year and the two saw creative possibilities in working together.

"Interpol was on tour last year and our final show was in Ireland," he said. "And as I got off stage, she approached me and she was super-sweet and friendly. So we talked and exchanged information, and then I kind of circled back to her."

Banks said he and RZA sent her the song they wanted to collaborate on and she liked it. "It was a great, very smooth kind of process, discussing with her the themes and the lyric," he said. "And then she killed it once she got in the studio-she just f-ing killed it." Read more here.

Zayn Malik Reflects On Leaving One Direction

(Radio.com) Zayn Malik hasn't exactly been quiet about voicing his distaste for One Direction and what felt to him like a creatively stifling experience. He's shared all sorts of opinions about why he felt it was time to move away from the group that launched him, and Thursday (July 28) he opening up once again about his decision to go solo.

"At that time in my life I felt I had done everything I could do there and I just needed to change it up," he told Teen Vogue. The move didn't feel like a risk, because, for Malik, there was nothing to lose. "It didn't feel brave," he admitted.

Still, it was a risk to leave one of pop music's most beloved groups. If Malik had any concerns about what success would look like after he went solo, he now knows it was worth it. "I'm still taking it all in," he said. "I've found so much out about myself--mostly how in love with music I still was. The album is a build up of six years and never being able to express what I wanted to say. I had something to get off my chest." Read more here.

Chris Lane On His 'Fix' Falsetto

(Radio.com) Chris Lane's fans are eagerly waiting his next album, Girl Problems, due out next month. It's the long-awaited follow-up to 20112's Let's Ride. Last year's Fix EP has been holding the fans over, and the title track has been something of a game changer for him: it's allowed him to bring his falsetto to country music. He recently told Radio.com how it happened.

"I got into the studio with [producer] Joey Moi, and we just took our time and made sure we got it right. I was really five or six songs deep, almost finished with [the EP], and a certain song that I released as my debut single, 'Fix,' came along right at the tail end of that, and changed everything. It was something that was unique for me, especially with the falsetto, which is something that you don't necessarily hear in country music."

He says that prior to cutting "Fix," his only falsetto singing was along to the radio. "I got in the vocal booth, and I was a bit intimidated, but I grew up singing Backstreet Boys songs, and Usher songs, that had falsetto in them. But I was a little bit intimidated by that."

"Fix" would change the course of his EP: "It was a song that I really took to, and then we wiped all the other songs out, and started over, and that was a very painful process for me, because I was dying to get music out there. That was a long three year gap [in between records]."

"But I'm really glad that I waited," he says, "Because I never would have ended up with the songs that I have now."

How did his producer discover that Lane could sing like that? "I was singing either an Usher song or I was singing this Mario song that I cover at my shows, an R&B song called 'Let Me Love You,' that I really love a lot."

"He [Moi] just turned around in his seat, and was like, 'What was that?'" Read more here.

David Nail Says 'Fighter' Is A Not-Always-Flattering Look At His Life

(Radio.com) David Nail's fourth MCA Nashville album, Fighter, is the most vulnerable, personal record the country star has ever made. But that's not the way the record started out.

'Six months ago, people would ask me about the record and I would jokingly say 'It's my love- making record,'" Nail explains. 'But what it meant to me then and what it means to me now are completely different; having been a father for about five months, it definitely changes the dynamic of things."

The 11 tracks on this record celebrate the victories and defeats of his real life. He's taken a hard look at himself, and what he sees isn't always flattering. ''Fighter' is about as honest as I've ever been in a song," Nail admits. 'I mean, when you're quoting your wife saying things that are not pleasant [about you], you know it was our story. But it also, I think, tells the story of me."

Nail explains that he and his wife Catherine have had to fight their whole lives- for his career, for their marriage, to battle back inner demons and to conceive their twins.

'[I was] like, 'Am I ready to sing this? Am I ready to tell this story?" Nail says. '[But] they come from a genuine place that you can kind of say, 'Okay, I've said that. I'm at peace with that.' I think that's what this record is. I feel like I've told the main aspects of my career, and my life, up to this point," he explains. 'So I really think whatever we do in the future, we'll be able to start just completely fresh. It'll be a new story, a new part of my life." Read more here.

The Killers' Mark Stoermer Talks 'Dark Arts' Solo Album

(Radio.com) Those that only know Mark Stoermer as The Killers' bassist will likely be surprised upon hearing his latest solo effort, Dark Arts. The multi-instrumentalist's second solo album is thoughtful and sonically perfect with its sixties-induced psychedelia, bluesy swagger, lyrical poetry, and lush cinematic orchestration.

It's clear Stoermer wrote and recorded the album to please himself. As his own biggest critic, it's instantly apparent the musician and producer poured over every note. In May, The Killers announced that Stoermer would be taking a break from touring with the band "to pursue other educational goals and releasing a solo album." To make a perfect album, it can't play second fiddle.

With a big band-playing father and influences ranging from Public Enemy and N.W.A to Nirvana, The Beatles, The Who and Pink Floyd, Stoermer's new album coalesced into his own distinct sound.

With Dark Arts set for an August 5th release, Stoermer answered a few pressing questions. Check out the interview here.
