Adele Says She Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show

(Radio.com) During a concert in Los Angeles on Saturday (August 13), Adele told the crowd she had turned down an offer to play the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

"They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no," she said. Now, the NFL is saying it never actually asked her, reports Billboard."The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele," reads a statement from the NFL. "We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else."

Is this a case of spin control or genuine miscommunication? Maybe the NFL, which reportedly met with Adele earlier this month, was dismayed by the her tone. "Come on, that show is not about music, and I don't dance or anything like that," Adele told the LA audience. Read more here.

Selena Gomez Says That Justin Bieber 'Cheated Multiple Times'

(Radio.com) When Justin Bieber posted six new photos of himself with Lionel Richie's 17 year-old daughter, Sofia, who he's reportedly dating, many fans voiced their disapproval. Bieber reacted with dismay.

"I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate," he wrote in the caption of a photo of him and Sophia together in a car. "This is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like."

That's when Bieber's ex-girlfriend, pop star Selena Gomez, entered with a backhanded piece of advice. "If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol--it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love and supported you before any one ever did," she wrote

Bieber wasn't amused and venomously snapped back. "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love," he wrote.

Miffed by Bieber's accusation that she "used" him for "attention," Selena responded, 'Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. All love." See the tweets here.

Nirvana Gets The 'Stranger Things' Treatment From Teen Star

(Radio.com) Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike Wheeler from Netflix's hit series Stranger Things) isn't only about searching for his missing buddy Will and protecting his new friend Eleven. It turns out, he's got some pretty decent guitar skills too.

The young Canadian actor posted a brief 22-second clip on Twitter early Monday (August 14) playing a riff from Nirvana's 1992 single "Lithium." Wolfhard doesn't say anything in the video, but instead lets his fingers do the talking. "Early morning Lithium!" he wrote in the tweet.

It's nice to see 13-year-old Vancouver native (who wears a Toronto Blue Jays t-shirt in the clip) harken back to the grunge rock sound rather than go with something more popular for his peer group. The kid clearly has great taste and a wealth of talent to boot. Watch here.

Morrissey Gives Health Update, Can't Find Record Deal

(Radio.com) Almost two years has passed since Morrissey went public with his cancer battle, and in a new interview with Israeli publication Walla, he provided an update.

He characterized the long road to recovery as exhausting and demoralizing, but promised he has new music on the way. "I think [cancer treatment] has slowed me down considerably because doctors and hospitals and medications are actually very aging in their way, and they can often exhaust you more than whatever medical problem you have," he said. "If I'm asked to give any more blood I think I'll crack up."

On the new music front, Morrissey said his next album is "written," but business questions are leaving its fate up in the air. "It is not possible to find a recording deal, so we would record it ourselves as soon as we can find a distributor who could make it available worldwide," he said. Read more here.

Rae Sremmurd Stream Bonus Track 'Pole Code'

(Radio.com) Rae Sremmurd want all ladies to abide by the "pole code" in their new track by the same name. The song comes as one of two bonus tracks the rappers released on the Target deluxe edition of their latest album SremmLife 2.

During the verses, the brothers appear to be scolding women who don't follow the "pole code." And they probably are, since they're quick to praise the women who know what they're doing.

"Sexy with a bankroll, that's a perfect combination/ Girl on girl action, dirty dancing is a passion/ She fing with that pole, but she not fing with you, ratchet," they rap before leading into the chorus, which has a much bigger, grittier feel reminiscent of Lil Jon's earlier bangers.

Even though it's a bonus track only available on Target CDs, fans will likely hear "Pole Code" during Rae Sremmurd's upcoming 27-city tour. The boys kick things off in New Orleans on October 1st. Listen to the explicit "Pole Code" here.

Meek Mill Defends His Year Since Drake Beef

(Radio.com) Last summer Meek Mill accused Drake of using ghostwriters, beginning a beef that he was generally perceived as losing. Many feel it's been all downhill for Mill since then, the rapper spent multiple months under house arrest for a parole violation, but Meek doesn't see it that way.

"Last year and the position I was in, a lot of people was going with the wave that I was actually losing, but my life was good," Mill tells MyMixtapez. "The internet is kind of uncontrollable," he continues. "It's a world of cowards where people get behind a computer and type anything."

"I think actually I went up to whole different level," said Mill. "This year I won a Billboard Award, I got a platinum single, both my albums went gold, I actually think went up to another level in life, for real for real."

There's a not so subtle dig at Drizzy when Meek discussed the producers he's working with on his forthcoming mixtape Dreamchasers 4. Read more here.

Twenty One Pilots Starting To Get Songwriting Itch Again

(Radio.com) The last year and a half has been very eventful for alt-rock band Twenty One Pilots. Since releasing Blurryface in May of 2015, the band has rocketed to the top of the charts, and have also gone from playing clubs to arenas: last week, they wrapped up their Emotional Roadshow World Tour with two sold out nights at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Radio.com caught up with vocalist/keyboardist/bassist Tyler Joseph and drummer/trumpet player Josh Dun before the first of their two MSG concerts last week. When asked about their next album, they said that they hadn't started working on it, because they were so focused on the tour.

But as Joseph told Radio.com that's about to change, "All that is to say that we've been putting a lot of energy into the live show, but we're starting to get that itch again, to start writing. To get new sounds and stuff, and so it's gonna happen." Read more here.

Tegan And Sara Release 'Hang On To The Night' Video

(Radio.com) It seems like Tegan and Sara pop out new videos as quickly as some amped-up rappers release mixtapes. The latest clip from the indie pop darlings is for the song "Hang on to the Night."

The animated video was directed and designed by Lisa Hanawalt, who moonlights as the production designer and producer for the Netflix show BoJack Horseman.

David Nail Reveals Real Life Inspiration For 'Babies'

(Radio.com) David Nail's latest album, Fighter, saw the country singer-songwriter going deep, emotionally speaking. Among the subjects on the record is his and his wife's newborn twins.

After struggling to conceive, the pair were blessed with twins. And that experience inspired the song "Babies." "'Babies' was born about three months after my kids were born," Nail tells Radio.com. "I just went out for breakfast one morning. The night before, I'd kind of reflected some, and got maybe slightly emotional. I went out for breakfast by myself. I wanted some time away to think about some things, and I texted a good friend of mine, Scooter Carusoe, who I co-wrote the song with, and Lee Miller. And I said, 'Hey, I think I'm finally ready to write a song about my kids.'"

Surprisingly to Nail, Carusoe anticipated this. "He wrote back immediately and said, 'I've already started on it.' It just took my breath away. Not because I was excited, but because I was afraid. I had not talked to him about anything about the song, what I wanted to say, the direction I wanted to go. It kind of scared me that he had already started. And so, we agreed to meet the next day, and we sat down and he had literally already crafted the first verse. It was just a matter of completing the story."

He continues, "Lee came in; it was really important for me to write the song with those two people, because more so than anyone else in town, they know my story and what we've been through, and have kind of been through some of the same issues themselves, so it was important to have them in the room." Demi Lovato Apologizes For Her Mother's Zika Virus Joke

(Radio.com) Demi Lovato caught some heat this weekend after posting a joke her mom made about the Zika virus on Snapchat. In the clip, Lovato's mom remarks, "Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus," as Lovato cracks up off camera. Soon after, Internet users were criticizing Lovato and her mom for making fun of a public health crisis.

Lovato later apologized, stressing that she wasn't mocking the Zika outbreak. "In no way did I mean to offend anyone last night. I was laughing at how southern my mom sounded, not the issue at hand. Deepest apologies," she tweeted.

Later, the singer returned to social media to tell her fans the haters aren't bringing her down. "It's an awesome feeling when you're so content with life and yourself that hate doesn't effect you. Feelin' good y'all," she posted. Read more here.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins Fight Against Scalper Bots

(Radio.com) Lin-Manuel Miranda is dedicated to ensuring everyone has equal access to art. That includes supporting legislation that would make it far more difficult for scalpers to use bot programs to buy and resell hundreds of tickets at a time.

The playwright and actor teamed up with a senator to encourage Congress to pass a new bill called the Better On-line Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act of 2016. If passed, it would mean scalpers caught using bot programming would face hefty fines (via Rolling Stone).

"The bot software that's used right now basically makes the price range--even a special event price range--out of the range for most Americans," Miranda said about his involvement with the bill during a press conference on Sunday. Read more here.

Justin Moore Talks New Album 'Kinda Don't Care'

(Radio.com) On Friday (August 12), Justin Moore released his latest album, Kinda Don't Care, which he could have titled "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Tape Loops."

He tells Radio.com that, for a long time, he was against using the loops and samples that are prevalent in a lot of county music today. "We didn't use loops, even live, until last year. I was against it. 'We're gonna play our instruments!' But now we've added some of that to the show," he says, noting that none of the samples are backing vocals. "It's fun to tinker with that stuff, it's fun and I think it increases the value of the show."

He's also used some more modern gear in the studio on Kinda Don't Care. "I had apprehensions about some of the 'tricks,' if you will, that we pulled off in the studio this time. But my producer [Jeremy Stover] said to me, 'Man, as long as you're happy with it and enjoy it and love it, the fans are going to as well. You need to not worry about this so much.' And that's kind of where Kinda Don't Care came from. That made sense to me. I said, 'You know what? He's right.'"

He didn't write the title track, but it fit in perfectly with his theme for this album. "The song is one that I had on hold for a couple of years. It may come off a little nonchalant and lackadaisical, but on this album we were really trying to marry that stone-cold country side of what I do, which my music is rooted in, with a more modern sound. We gotta try to keep up with these young cats who are starting now, who have 'hip-ed' it up a little. It was our goal to marry those ideas together as seamlessly as we possibly could. And I hope we did that." Read more here.
