Kid Cudi Slams Kanye West Over TIDAL Rant

(Radio.com) If Kanye West's recent Twitter rant about the possibility of Apple purchasing Jay Z's streaming platform TIDAL (of which West is part shareholder) seems like he's only concerned about listeners, one rapper is calling BS.

Kid Cudi tweeted on Sunday (July 31) how West's reaction isn't about making the music TIDAL streams available to Apple's users. It's all about the big payoff.

It all started on Saturday when West tweeted his aggravation over talks between Apple and TIDAL (via Billboard). Without going into specifics, he claimed there was drama taking place and he was tired of it. "F- all this d- swinging contest. We all gon be dead in 100 Years. Let the kids have the music," West wrote.

Cudi protested. Citing a tweet West wrote about getting the major heads of Apple and TIDAL together for a talk, Cudi responded, "This is why the game is f-- up." He followed it up with another tweet: "All this s- is wack. Bunch of rich guys on a power trip. This s- aint about music. Never has. The rich just wanna get richer. Spare me." See the tweets here.

The Band Perry Return With New Single 'Comeback Kid'

(Radio.com) The Band Perry have released their first single in over a year on Monday (August 1st), after days of teasing fans about their comeback online last week.

The song, fittingly titled "Comeback Kid," is a slow ballad that features Kimberly Perry on lead vocals singing about the worst year she's ever had and how she refuses to give up.

'They like to kick you when you're down / They like it better when you're there on the ground / And up 'til now, I've never made a sound / I bet they've never had a broken heart / But they sure know how to beat the hell out of one," she sings at the song's start.

'Comeback Kid' was written by Kimberly, Reid and Neil. Listen to the song in its entirety on YouTube here.

Rae Sremmurd Release 'Look Alive' Remix Featuring Migos

(Radio.com) Rae Sremmurd have released a new track where they take their single "Look Alive" to the next level by inviting Atlanta rap trio Migos to help them remix it.

Melodically and rhythmically, there's not much different between the original and the newest version featuring Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, but each of Migo's three rappers contributed a new verse, lending the chill song a slightly harder edge thanks in part to the increased number of NSFW language that peppers their lyrics (via Idolator). There's still just one rule no matter who's rapping: "Kill my cup, not my vibe."

The single's cover art looks to take a page out of E.T., showing Rae Sremmurd and Migos in silhouette as their bikes launch into the sky. It's a strong collab from the two rap groups, and shows the potential for more to come. Read more here.

Justin Timberlake Gives Moving Teen Choice Awards Speech

(Radio.com) Justin Timberlake accepted The Decade Award at the Teen Choice Awards Wunday night, where he delivered a powerful and inspiring speech to the young people watching in the crowd and at home.

Despite being only 35 years old, Timberlake could have received the award last decade too, as he began starring in The All-New Mickey Mouse Club at the young age of 12 in 1993, and broke onto the music scene with his hugely successful boy band, *NSYNC, only two years later.

JT connected to young viewers right off the bat by talking about his former teen years. 'As a former teen, who's made a few choices along the way, I'm here to tell you that you and your choices matter." Then, Timberlake got a little more personal, 'I grew up in Millington, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis, where I was blessed to be raised by parents and a family that who taught me some big lessons.

"They taught me to respect them, they taught me to respect myself, and to respect all people on the basis of their character. Not where they live, not what did they did for a living, or the color of their skin. My parents did their best to fill my young mind not with prejudice or hate but with compassion and love. The truth is we are all different, but that does not mean we all don't want the same thing," he later added. Check out Justin's full speech here.

Gene Simmons' Daughter Is Writing Hip-Hop Songs

(Radio.com) Music runs in the Simmons family. As it turns out, Gene Simmons' daughter, Sophie, also has a budding music career. Sophie Simmons recently told TMZ that she is working on an EP of new music.

Additionally, she's been writing songs for other artists including Rick Ross. "I'm writing songs for everyone, which is great," Simmons told TMZ. 'I'm working on my own EP but I've been writing songs for people lately. I just wrote a track for Rick Ross, which is hysterical."

While she hasn't said whether her father has heard the track for Ross yet, the elder Simmons has spoken out about his distaste for rap music. He told Rolling Stone earlier this year that he is looking forward to the 'death of rap." His daughter, however, thinks differently. Read more here.

Singled Out: Matt Brown's Walk Into The Light

Matt Brown recently released his new studio album "Walk Into The Light" and to celebrate we asked him to tell us the story behind the record's title track. Here is the story:

Most of my songs start with a voice-memo recording from my iPhone. I have a plethora of recordings that come at random times. Some come in the middle of the night, some come while driving, and some come in the middle of a conversation. Most of the recordings don't translate into full songs, but I think it's a good habit as a writer to capture any idea that comes to you.

I had had this melody recorded in my phone several months prior to pulling it back up and deciding to write on it. I was at a wedding in Bend, Oregon with my best friend and co-writing partner, Ryan Root. We snuck away at the rehearsal dinner party because I wanted to show him some ideas I had recorded with my iPhone. I started playing him that melody and mumbling words that sounded like "Walk Into The Light." Ryan and I write well together and have a way of finishing where the other person leaves off. I think that's when you know you have a good co-write.

Ryan started repeating the last word of the chorus and it clicked that we had a good start to a song. It was getting dark, and Bend is full of pine trees. Hence the lyric, "moonlight shining through the pine trees." We started taking in all the romantic aspects around us on that warm summer night. We were both talking about how we have learned that a good relationship is about choice and not an emotion. You have to choose to keep moving forward despite what you will feel emotionally.

The song takes you through a story of driving into the night with your partner. When the car breaks down, you keep walking into the night, and eventually you walk into the light and realize you have something that you're willing to keep fighting for. It's also a song about shedding light on who we truly are and being honest with ourselves so we can be honest with the person we love. The song always called for a '60s vibe, so that's how we approached the song in the studio.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
