On October 13, Geffen/UMe Recordings is set to release FYFTY, a 4CD/digital 50th anniversary box set that celebrates the enduring legacy of one of rock & roll's most pre-eminent bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd. The career-spanning 50 tracks featured on FYFTY represent the best of the best music the band has offered up to its loyal, worldwide fanbase from the very beginning. Within this box set, fans of all eras of Lynyrd Skynyrd can trace the band's roots by way of their early Muscle Shoals recordings through an abundance of iconic songs that defined the literal soundtrack of the '70s. From there, listeners can revisit live cuts from the historic 1987 tribute show that ignited the band's ensuing reunion, then continue onward and upward with the determined last-band standing defiance of fist-pumping latter-era tracks like "Last Of A Dyin' Breed" and "Last Of The Street Survivors," and eventually touch back down on earth with a special live performance of "Gimme Three Steps" that was culled from the band's final show with co-founding guitarist Gary Rossington in November 2022, a previously unreleased live track (continue)
August Burns Red will embark on the 10th anniversary "Rescue & Restore" 10th Anniversary Tour. The North American tour kicks off November 10 in Worcester, Massachusetts and runs through December 9 in the band's hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. All dates are below.
The band will perform the Rescue & Restore album in full in each night, along with other fan faves and classics. Brand of Sacrifice, Spite, and Crystal Lake will serve as support. (continue)
On the full moon, Tuesday 1 August, Peter Gabriel releases the eighth track from the album i/o. This month the song is Olive Tree and the first version to be heard is the Bright-Side Mix, by Mark 'Spike' Stent.
Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, Olive Tree is another song about connection, both how we interact with nature and the other species around us, but also a greater sensitivity to the potential for broadening human experience, 'in some ways I do think we are part of everything and we probably have means to connect and communicate with everything that we often shut off. We only want to see and listen to the things that seem important and relevant to us and shut out the noise of everything else when, probably, hidden in that noise there are all sorts of things that can help us realise our place in this future world.' Already lined up for a spectacular North America 22-date concert run this fall, Queen + Adam Lambert, are extending their Rhapsody Tour activity into 2024 with the announcement today of five mega dome concerts in Japan in February next year.
Opening their Japan show dates February 4 in Nagoya, the band will additionally perform it's lauded Rhapsody show in Osaka (Feb 7), Sapporo (Feb 10) and conclude with two shows at the Tokyo Dome, (February 13 and 14) performing in all to over 200,000 concert-goers. The Sapporo show is a particularly historic one, marking the band's first return to the city in over 42 years, last played by Queen on its Hot Space tour, October 29, 1982. (continue)
Third Eye Blind have shared their live performance of Sinead O'Connor's "The Emperor's New Clothes" that they played on July 27 at The Atlantis, DC to tribute the singer following the news of her death.
Frontman Stephan Jenkins shared this tribute. "When my own voice as an artist was in a state of formation, Sinead's style illuminated to me what was possible. She could be raw and in focus, brave without being needlessly exhibitionistic, powerful and beautiful. Although the subject was often heavy, there was always something lively and free about her music. Something both celebratory and longing, we were seeing a unique, honest, troubled and worthy spirit in myriad states of aliveness. I found her profoundly encouraging as an artist. (continue)
