ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons says in a new interview that he never plans to retire from music and also spoke about taking part in the tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd legend Gary Rossington at the CMT Awards earlier this year.
Gibbons told Ultimate Classic Rock of the tribute, "I was wrapping up a recording session in Nashville. As I was leaving the studio, I heard somebody call my name. It turned out to be a gentleman sitting in an SUV that was parked adjacent to the doorway of the studio. I recognized that it was a guy I had met on a number of occasions. He's the promoter of that awards presentation, and he summoned me over to the window. He said, 'Hey, I'm glad I saw you. I need your advice.' I said, 'What might that be?' He said, 'What would you think about putting together a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute, with this being so close after the passing of [Rossington], the last surviving member.' (continue)
Spirit of Unicorn Music are delighted to announce a brand new album from District 97, Stay For The Ending, pre-orders for which have opened today.
Featuring 10 brand new tracks, the album is the culmination of everything this Chicago-based prog rock ensemble has worked towards during their last 15 years. Formed in Autumn 2006, the band draws influences from a diverse array of musical styles, from heavy metal to avant-garde jazz. This broad appreciation of musical genres has continued to inform the band's latest work and sees them further develop their sound and songwriting to ambitious new levels: upping their game in the areas of composition, performance, arrangement, production and sonics. InsideOut Music is delighted to announce that it has signed Big Big Train to a multi-album deal for new studio releases. The band are currently working on a new studio album, expected to be released in spring 2024, and have recently been recording in Trieste, Italy, where lead vocalist Alberto Bravin is based.
Big Big Train bassist/founder Gregory Spawton comments: "We have ambitious plans for Big Big Train and are very pleased to have signed this deal with InsideOut. Having run our own record label, English Electric Recordings, for a lengthy period, it's clear that the music industry has changed enormously in recent years and we believe that we are best positioned to grow BBT further by becoming an InsideOut band. Over the last decade we had received offers from various labels. When we considered the different options, signing up with the premier label for progressive music was the logical choice. We're very excited about this new era for the band and working with InsideOut/Sony." (continue)
The 45th anniversary of Boston's sophomore album "Don't Look Back" is being celebrated by the syndicated radio show In The Studio With Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands.
Redbeard had this to say, "In the sweltering Summer 1978, the band Boston, poised to release their second album Don't Look Back, was a major player in a drama playing out in Memphis TN. The band's debut Boston two years earlier had by August sold seven million copies on its way to becoming the top selling debut ever (now over 17 million ), and the follow-up Don't Look Back was being rush released to North American rock radio stations. Boston, led by my guest here in this classic rock interview, guitarist/composer Tom Scholz, was barely two years from playing Beantown roller rinks and armories, but now their third date on the headline Don't Look Back tour was set for August 15 in Memphis' 10,000 seat Mid South Coliseum in the birthplace of rock and roll.
