Day in Rock Report for 09/02/2015

Lemmy Forced To Leave Stage Three Songs Into Motorhead Show

(Classic Rock) Motorhead icon Lemmy Kilmister stopped the band's show in Texas last night and admitted: "I can't do it." They managed to deliver three tracks before the 69-year-old introduced their track Metropolis, but then told the crowd he couldn't continue, and led his bandmates off stage at Emo's in Austin.

It follows his walk-off last week in Salt Lake City, where the band cited the high altitude as the reason behind Lemmy's inability to breathe. They cancelled the following night's show in Denver, at an even higher altitude.

Glide reports that the venue house lights went up after the "fatigued and winded" frontman returned to apologies to a generally supportive crowd, who then left in a mood of concern and mild annoyance. Read more here.

Tom DeLonge 'Interested And Willing' To Return To Blink-182

(TeamRock Radio) Tom DeLonge says he's "interested and willing" in rejoining Blink-182. He split acrimoniously with Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker in January, and they've since started working with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba - with the possibility of releasing new music together.

Despite the fall-out, DeLonge tells Billboard: "I'm totally willing and interested in playing with those guys again. People ask me every single day, 'Go back, go back, go back.'

"I haven't forgotten anything and I'm grateful for that band and for those guys in my life. I think about that band every single day of my life - sometimes multiple times a day. I love those guys and I love the band."

He puts the split down to differing interests, particularly his plans to write novels and continue with his band Angels & Airwaves. "Those guys want to play the music and tour all the time, but I'm involved in some very big sh*t and some very important stuff," he says. Read more here.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong slammed the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast that took place on Sunday night for the network's snubbing of rock bands during the show.

The outspoken frontman took to Twitter on Sunday night after the broadcast with the following messages, "just watched VMAs. seriously @MTV not a single young rock n roll band?"

Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Skid Row Stars Guest On Free Fall CD

(Classic Rock) Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall album featuring guest appearances from a string of top vocalists will be released in November. Frontiers Srl will issue Kingdom Of Rock on November 6 and a trailer featuring snippets of a number of the tracks has been released.

Former Black Sabbath man Tony Martin and ex Deep Purple and Rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner make guest appearances, as do Skid Row's Tony Harnell, Masterplan's Rick Altzi, Pink Cream 69's David Readman and Harry Hess of Harem Scarem.

Karlsson says: "I didn't plan to make a second Freefall album at first, but one album wasn't enough for my wish list of singers. I wanted not only some of the best singers I ever heard, but singers that meant a lot to me and that have given me inspiration.

"For example, Tony Martin and Joe Lynn Turner. I grew up with their music and that made me the musician I am today. It feels unreal to make music with them now." Read more and check out the trailer here.

Atreyu Went On Hiatus To Keep Their Musical Integrity

(TeamRock Radio) Atreyu needed their hiatus because their musical integrity was at risk, says guitarist Dan Jacobs. They ended a three-year break in July last year and release sixth album Long Live on September 18 - and they believe the work is all the better for being refocused.

Jacobs tells Loudwire: "Because the only outlet we had was Atreyu, the sound started really altering. Stepping back and being able to do our own things, we could get that out of our system, find a comfortable place to have that outlet, and not let it affect the integrity of our sound."

He continues: "The reason we're able to come back now, be who we are, sound the way we do and be confident about what we're doing, is that that's not in the way any more."

Drummer Brandon Saller recently called their latest material a "total reincarnation" of the band. Now he says of getting back to work: "All I wanted to do was make heavy music, and have a super-aggressive, energetic vibe. We were a lot more focused." Watch the full interview here.

Hillage tells MusicRadar: "It used to irk me that, when Daevid left the band, people were saying, 'Steve is the new leader of Gong.' But I had nothing to do with Daevid leaving at all.

"I wasn't even around at the time - I was finishing the Fish Rising album. But people were talking like I'd made some sort of coup d'etat, which was absolutely not the case." Read more here.

On the album title, bass player Ben Osmundson says: "Touring all the time and travelling can be a bit of a pirate's sort of life so it fits in that sense. So in a way it's about taking a chance in life and walking the plank of life. It could also just be too much rum in the Mai Tai - but that's another story.

"It's one of our best sounding records to date. We wanted it to sound like you're in an arm wrestling competition at the beach while doing a keg stand. Hopefully it'll take you on that journey before the ice in your cocktail melts."

Panic! At The Disco Reveal New Song 'Death of a Bachelor'

(Radio.com) Brendon Urie says the new Panic! At The Disco album is finished and nearly ready to go, and of all the tracks, "Death of a Bachelor" is his favorite. Urie phoned Pete Wentz (who was sitting in for Beats 1 Radio host Zayn Lowe) Monday (Sept 1) to celebrate the world premier of the song and reveal the story behind it.

Urie explains that the song details giving up his single life and how comfortable he is with that change. "You kinda find this person that you connect with and you can kind of throw away your history. You don't want to just forget about it.

"You just don't need to look back. You don't regret anything from the past. You don't have any want to go back to a life of being a bachelor. You know I met my wife Sarah and I was just like, this is it," says Urie. "I figured out that this is the happiest that I've ever been."

Urie addresses what fans must think of him, noting that it's no secret that fans seem to prefer single celebrities. "You're a rock star. You should be this single dude that goes around and sleeps with a bunch of girls. That's not really me, you know. This was just my voice, telling exactly how I felt at that time."

"It's like if Sinatra and Beyonc made a song together," Urie half-jokingly explained to Wentz. "It's like some Beyonc beats with some Sinatra vocals. It's really crazy."

It's no secret that Urie idolizes Sinatra, the singer who would have been 100 this year. "I attach his music to so many memories," he said in a post. "Opening presents on Christmas day, my grandparents teaching the rest of the family to swing dance, watching "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" with my siblings (Sinatra makes a cameo in the form of a cartoon sword singing "Witchcraft"). His music has been a major player in the soundtrack of my life. So it's only right that I return the favor and/or pay it forward."

Drummer Richard Danielson told The Blues: "On our first record we recorded live with no click, and we were a little nervous that a producer might want to come in and really overproduce on this sophomore record.

"What Don did was 100% the opposite - he stripped us down even more." Vintage Trouble are currently supporting AC/DC on their world tour. Watch the new video here.

Clutch Frontman Explains New Single 'X-Ray Visions'

(hennemusic) Clutch frontman Neil Fallon says the inspiration behind the band's new single, "X-Ray Visions", comes from the group's own experiences on the road.

The lead track from Clutch's forthcoming 11th album, "Psychic Warfare", due October 2 is set in a motel along any one of America's vast system of highways.

"A lot of it is fueled by our experiences in motels over the years," explains Fallon. "When Clutch was first starting out in our van, in our RV, we would just roll until we ran out of steameither sleep in the van or the RV or we would go into a motel. It was never planned.

"I spent countless nights looking out the peephole of the motel wondering what's going on in the parking lot at 3 AM or pressing my ear up against the door that connects to the next room. You don't know who's in the next room. These places can be pressure cookers."

"To add to the formula," he says, "a lot of people in these places are living on the margins of society; maybe they're running from something. The motels are definitely pressure cookers that can exaggerate paranoia and delusion and that's what this song is about."

Clutch are gearing up to play select festival dates along with a Labor Day weekend show at The Joint in Las Vegas supporting Primus. The band will also be co-headlining with Mastodon on select dates with special guests COC as part of leg 2 of The Missing Link Tour which features full sets by both acts.

Soilwork Faced Challenge With New Album

(TeamRock Radio) Soilwork frontman Bjorn Strid admits the band were under pressure to come up with the goods on their latest album - but he insists the challenge was a healthy one.

The band released 10th album The Ride Majestic last month, following 2013's acclaimed double LP The Living Infinite. Strid tells The Rockpit: "I did feel pressure, and I think the rest of the guys did as well - but I think it was a healthy pressure, because we felt that we found something new.

"We found new confidence in writing The Living Infinite, that we can pull off writing a double album and that we can find other ways of expressing ourselves. So I think we felt really excited even though the pressure was there. We knew that we found something new that we could develop."

He adds: "This album is even more focused on the melancholy that we found with The Living Infinite. The extreme parts are even more extreme and the softer parts are a little bit softer - it creates a really interesting dynamic." Read more here.

Defeater Will Stick With Concepts Says Jake Woodruff

(TeamRock Radio) Defeater guitarist Jake Woodruff reckons the band will never release a non-concept album. They issued fourth album Abandoned last month and Woodruff admits they've toyed with the idea of a 'regular' record, but mainman Derek Archambault keeps coming up with concepts that lend themselves perfectly to the format.

Woodruff tells Musicradar: "It's something we've been thinking about over the past few years. If we ever ditched the concept stuff, it wouldn't be Defeater, it would be something else.

"Plus, after seeing how Derek has crafted these concepts and storylines, we are all curious about how far we can take it. I don't think we'll ever run out of things to write about. Without that stuff, I'm not so sure it would be a true Defeater record." Read more here.
