Fans Arrested At Marilyn Manson Show

Jam! reports: Some fans got carried away and extra police had to be called in near Winnipeg's MTS Centre late Sunday night after a concert by shock-rocker Marilyn Manson.

Winnipeg police blocked off Portage Ave. and called in for backup as rowdy fans poured out of the stadium.

It's unknown how many people were arrested but several people were seen being taken away in handcuffs. - more on this story

Dave Mustaine Talks Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax Tour Rumor

Blabbermouth reports: Megadeth's Dave Mustaine was asked during an interview about the rumored "Big Four" tour that would feature Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Here is what he had to say about it:

"I don't know... I think anything is possible. But the whole beauty of what we did with the 'Clash Of The Titans' [U.S. tour in 1991] was the three of us [Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax], we really had a common thread that ran through all of us and we were very close in a lot of different areas. Of course, METALLICA's success really put them in a kind of unapproachable position where they were just so high in stature, we kind of were all left behind, if you know what I mean. But not saying that in a bad way, because I'm totally satiated with my success right now; I'm very happy with what I've done in my life. Going into what the 'Clash Of The Titans' was, we all had this mutual respect, and we all rotated. And the lineup was always the same � Anthrax played before Megadeth, and Megadeth always played before Slayer. So whoever was headlining, the rotation swapped. Like, if Slayer was headlining, it would be Anthrax, me, then Slayer. If I was headlining, Slayer would open, then Anthrax, then me. Now, I don't know that, because of the stature of Metallica versus [the other three bands], if it would really be a balanced kind of four-way show, you know what I'm saying? . . . [But] I'm not gonna rule anything out.

And as much as I'm trying to tap-dance around in this, it's just gossip and rumors. It would be foolish of me as a businessman to not take that opportunity, and it would be dumb of me as a bandleader to not do that for the guys in my group and for the fans of the band. But again, I don't wanna play in the round [which seems to be Metallica's preferred stage set-up nowadays], and I don't see us going into an arena and the guys in Metallica changing their stage for me. I think that there's a couple of things that, if that was gonna happen, they would have to be ironed out, and there's a lot of stuff. I mean, besides the personal stuff, which is always gonna be there. It's just a matter of how we're progressing in our spiritual walk that we can deal with those things from the past and not perpetuate it going forward. I don't wanna keep breaking open those old wounds; I would rather that they stay healed. I've made my best attempts at passing around olive branches and I think that it's not gonna get any better unless there's something on the horizon for me just by continuing to be supportive of these other guys and look at who I am and be happy with that." - Read more from the interview at Blabbermouth including his thoughts on the recent bashings he's been taking from Slayer

U2's Magnificent Tour Opener

antiMusic reports: antiMusic's Anthony Kuzminski was on hand for U2's tour opener on Saturday, here is his report from the show! Four songs into U2's opening night of their US tour at Soldier Field in Chicago, the band's more prevailing side shined through as the "Magnificent" lifted off like a rocket ship into space. If a ship had appeared, I wouldn't have been surprised as the latest stage by U2 is the most mammoth, audacious, and insane playground ever designed for a rock show. With a moving bridge, an intense desire to bond with the crowd and a chorus that seemed to be sent from the heavens, the band took flight. "Magnificent" was the fourth song to be performed in a row from No Line on the Horizon. The previous three, the rippling "Breathe" led by a thunderous drum attack by Larry Mullen Jr, the distinctive "No Line on the Horizon" and the jagged "Get On Your Boots" were audacious yet failed to elicit much of a reaction from the crowd of 65,000. But with "Magnificent" the band spectacularly connected with each of the 65,000.

"Magnificent" is the type of song that lifts souls, embellishes them and turns your insides outward in a rare display of emotions. The overwhelming majority of people were there to see the hits, of which there were plenty but what U2 brought with them was more than a night of nostalgia, but the Willy Wonka factory of rock productions.

Lasting for two-hours and ten minutes, the twenty-three song set were full of stadium ready anthems and bold juxtapositions. The rhythm section of bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. held the line keeping the concert on track throughout the entire evening. These two forces of nature may not have the charisma of Bono or the flash of The Edge, but they are the foundation upon which U2 is built. Both poured their hearts out on the opener "Breathe", which for as great of a song as it is, doesn't quite achieve what it should as the evening's starter. In fact, it loses some of its impact due to the mid-tempo nature of the song. This is where "Magnificent" should be, as it would allow the band to achieve starlight status immediately with a song that elevates everyone and everything that comes in touch with it. Even though the new material was a tough sell to the crowd, I would be lying to you if U2 didn't fight for their lives in presenting this material to the masses. "Boots" was initially well received but the screams faded fast. However, the stage and screens elevated "Unknown Caller" to sing-along-status proving that U2 uses their glitzy production to their advantage. The biggest re-working of any song in the band's catalog came from "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" reworked in a disco dance beat version which found all four members scowling the entire stage. I was lost at first, but this is a song where the translucent energy of the crowd and the drive of the band worked. - more on this story

Basketball Diaries' Jim Carroll Dies

Nightwatcher reports: Jim Carroll, the poet and punk rocker who wrote "The Basketball Diaries," died Friday. He was 60.

He died from a heart attack at his home in Manhattan, his ex-wife Rosemary Carroll told the New York Times.

Carroll was a fixture of the 1970s downtown Manhattan scene, where he mixed with artists such as Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. His life was shaped by drug use, which he wrote about extensively. - more on this story

Def Leppard/Cheap Trick Add New Tour Leg

antiMusic reports: Def Leppard have added another tour leg with Cheap Trick. While only a handful of dates have been announce, it looks like this round will kick off next month.

The last leg concluded this weekend. Here is the announcement from the Leppard camp along with the initial dates: Due to great demand, Def Leppard has decided to add another leg to its highly successful 2009 tour.

Green Day Prima Donna

PR reports: Acetate Recording artists Prima Donna have been selected by Green Day as main support for their upcoming UK and Europe tour. The tour kicks off September 28 in Lisbon, Portugal and concludes November 12 in Turin, Italy, including dates in the U.K., Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland.

Racking up over 300 shows in their short existence, Prima Donna is known for their energetic live shows, wowing audiences across the US and Europe. Johnny Van Zant (vocals): We wrote that before Vicious Cycle. Gary always keeps a cassette of stuff, he brought it in while we were in the studio, said "ya'll need to listen to this, man; we can do something with this."

Gary Rossington (guitar): It's kind of about us and me, and what we've been through and done. Anybody can relate to it that's been through a lot and had a life go on. A lot of stuff happens. We need to find 20 more of those laying around.

Rickey Medlocke (guitar): That song actually was written quite a few years ago, right after Leon passed away. What ended up happening was we listened to the song again and it was so appropriate for us today.

Aimee Mann Fall Tour

PR reports: After a summer tour throughout the East Coast and international tour dates in Japan, Argentina, Chile, Singapore and Australia, Aimee Mann heads west for fall tour dates that will take her through Portland and Seattle with Nick Lowe and then on to Vancouver, Boise, Salt Lake City, and Boulder.

The tour will wrap up with a Los Angeles date, with Fountains of Wayne opening, at the Wiltern Theatre. Mann continues to tour in support of last year's critically acclaimed release @#%&! Smilers. Mojo hailed the album "a masterpiece," while People Magazine pronounced "trends may come and go, but real artists, like this singer-songwriter remain."

Never one to rest on the laurels of her past, Aimee has been busy releasing albums and touring for the better part of the last decade. A Fine Frenzy On The Road

EMI reports: Following this week's release of Bomb in a Birdcage, its acclaimed second album, A Fine Frenzy-led by Alison Sudol-is announcing a month-long national tour, beginning on Tuesday, October 20th at the Parish in Austin, Texas. These dates (see full schedule below) take the band through all major markets from New York to Los Angeles; rising stars Landon Pigg and Oak & Ashes will be opening the shows.

A Fine Frenzy recently played a special preview concert in East Hampton, New York, which was filmed by the public television series Live from the Artists Den. Highlights from this remarkable performance, which showcases Sudol's on-stage charm and the group's dynamic new sound, can now be seen exclusively on hulu.com (www.hulu.com/artistsden); more than TK# people viewed the four-song clip the first day it was posted. A Fine Frenzy is also scheduled to appear on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson later this month, with further television appearances soon to be announced.

Brian May, Richie Sambora, Zakk Wylde, and Ty Tabor Talk Guitar Zeus

PR reports: Fuel Records released the Guitar Zeus project by legendary drummer Carmine Appice, featuring a compilation of 24 of the best Guitar Zeus songs. Conquering Heroes hit the streets on August 25th. The double-disc set showcases the prolific talents of many world-renown rock guitarists including Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), Yngwie Malmsteen, Neal Schon (Journey), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), Mick Mars (Motley Crue), and the core band featuring Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder) on bass, Kelly Keeling (Blue Murder, MSG, TSO) on vocals/keys/rhythm guitar, with Appice on drums.

Guitarists Brian May, Richie Sambora, Zakk Wylde, and Ty Tabor had this to say about their roles in the project: "As soon as I heard the track, I thought it had a very haunting quality to it," remarks Brian May (Queen) about the song Nobody Knew (Black and White House), "evoking the 70's in some ways perhaps, but with a very modern slant. I also found the backing track itself very powerful and appealing, driven by Carmine's very recognizable style so I was keen to play on the track straight away, despite being incredibly snowed-under with work at the time!"

"I've always been a fan of Carmine's," notes Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi guitarist. "It was great playing with him and Tony. What a great rhythm section. I loved the song [Gonna Rain] - the vocals. I had a great time playing on this track. I think everyone will love this track - check it out!!!!"
