Singer Killed By Coyotes |
"Another hiker called for help after hearing Mitchell's screams, the Ottawa Citizen reported. Police responded and had the singer flown to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries Wednesday." more
Taylor's mother posted a message for fans on the singer's official website. Here is part of it: On behalf of my family, I want to express my deepest thanks for the outpouring of condolences and support from Taylor's friends and fans, near and far. My thanks to the hikers who called 911, the RCMP officer who first arrived on the scene and did his utmost to help her, as well as the incredible doctors and nurses at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax who tried desperately to save her. I wish to also thank RCMP's Victims Services, and the Atlantica Hotel who've gone out of their way to support us during this difficult time.

Black Flag, Social Distortion Death Hoax? |
But does it go deeper than that? The blogger who "broke the news" that was carried by several music media outlets (including NME, AOL's Spinner, NPR and Blabbermouth) on Thursday, claims he had been in email contact with Chuck and his wife for the past six months. Now he asks "Case closed? Not until I figure out who the hell was e-mailing me for six months pretending to be Chuck and his wife. A 'full disclosure' post regarding my side of this whole mess is coming shortly."
We won't name the blog in case this in the end turns out to be a PR stunt on that level, but it is curious that someone claiming to be Chuck Biscuits is posting notices of his own death on Facebook. But who knows is that is really him? We'll see if we can dig up any REAL info from a credible source over the weekend.

Copeland Breakup |
To put your minds at ease, we assure you this is not a bitter break up. We all individually feel Copeland has run its course in our lives and it's time for us to pursue what is next. We couldn't end things without a proper goodbye, so we are planning a final farewell tour in the US this coming Spring, as well as one final jaunt around the world to some of our favorite countries. We are really excited about seeing you all one more time, and we hope it turns out to be the best Copeland tour ever.
It has been discussed and we are not ruling out the possibility of recording one more album sometime in the future. However, this spring tour will be our last.

Paramore Talks Ignorance and Evolving |
What inspired "Ignorance"? Hayley: "Ignorance" was one of the first songs we completed start to finish. We had been sitting around our rehearsal space for hours, and Josh was really frustrated because I wanted something energetic to get us motivated. He was like, "Listen guys, we're never going to have another 'Misery Business'just get over it." He turns around for a second, and he's in his own little world, and he turns back and starts playing this riff. And I was like, "Well, what's that? Because that'll do just fine."
How has your sound evolved since you started out? Hayley: What's cool is that there is this core that's stayed the same. We play venues now that are a lot biggerour first show in New York was at the Continental, and some of the same kids who were there, which weren't many, are going to be in the front row tonight. And I think that now more than ever, you can hear each of our personalities coming through our music, and we're not really afraid of that. So if anything, it's a little more fearless, and I hope we continue to do that with every record.

Singled Out: Super 400 |
Some songs start with a title, or a verse, and then we try to follow that thread to the end. Thorn Tree started with the chorus. Kenny came up with it on his Martin acoustic guitar, strumming and singing, 'I'm farming a thorn tree in the green fields of my own mind', over and over.
I still use my Tascam cassette 4-track when I write. I don't always reuse the cassettes, so my tape collection spans most of the work we've done over the past 14 years. Songs I've started, discarded, forgotten, and tried to develop. In the pile are dozens of tapes of the three of us jamming and writing together. For Thorn Tree, we tried our usual method of heading down to the basement and jamming on a few verse ideas. Nothing fit or felt right, and we were totally stuck on lyrics. The image of a thorn tree, growing in the mind, was Kenny's expression of some trust issues the band had been going through with people we had been working with. We felt frustrated after some doors were slammed in our face, promises were smashed. Every band experiences this, it never gets easier to take.
We were on the road. We had spent a night in Brooklyn, in an apartment with no curtains in the very radiant summertime. I got up early, and sat in the kitchen with kenny's guitar and a little recorder. 'Hey brother man, where did you go? You planted seeds but nothing around here's grown. My heart is aching, my bones are shaking' was the first thing I wrote down, and it felt right as a melody and lyric. Kenny and Joe were both into it. I sang it over a droning E major to minor chord, but we still needed a riff for the part. At least things were coming together, and that made me excited to continue.
The next week, we played our twice-monthly residency at a club in Troy, NY, where we are able to stretch out and jam a little. A heavy, cyclic pattern began, I grabbed my recorder, got about 30 seconds of it, and hoped it sounded like something. Although completely distorted, the idea was there and it fit the verse Brooklyn-born verse melody somehow.
For the bridge, Joe and I got together over the idea of trying to get the truth out of someone. They're up on the roof, looking down on you without the guts to face you. We're calling them out in the song. 'Come down from the roof so I know what you're after.' That part of the song drops down to a whisper, with the chime-like vibes ringing over that beautiful melody. Kenny really sings the snot out of this song.
We've played Thorn Tree a hundred times, and that riff never gets tired, it's always fun, a come-together moment for the band. The song is a good set starter because of that unison riff, we can get our heads in the same space, prepare for what's next. It's like a huddle. We hope you like the sound!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
