Metallica had this to say about the special: "We were honored to participate in the two night series of concerts held in October at Madison Square Garden in New York to benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Our friends from HBO were there to film the entire event and have put together a four hour special that debuted Sunday, November 29 at 8:00 PM EST/PST. [With plenty of re-airing from now through the end of the year]
"The shows celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the two nights featured different lineups with everyone performing their own songs along and playing with other artists who have influenced all forms of music. We had an incredible experience in New York and were humbled to perform with musicians who have inspired us throughout the years including Lou Reed, Ozzy Osbourne, and Ray Davies of the Kinks. Tune in to see us do "Sweet Jane" with Lou Reed, "Iron Man"/"Paranoid" with Ozzy , and "All Day and All of the Night" with Ray Davies. "For Whom The Bells Toll," and "Enter Sandman" will also air for a little dose of straight up 'Tallica."
HBO had this info on the special: It's the concert event of 2009! Many of the music world's most luminous stars take the stage at New York's Madison Square Garden to celebrate a quarter century of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Featuring performances from two groundbreaking concerts to be held this October at Madison Square Garden, the special will be anchored by iconic musicians that include Jeff Beck Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Aretha Franklin, Metallica, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, U2 and Stevie Wonder, among others. False Starts & Broken Promises has been met very enthusiastically by the U.K. press, comparing the album to "the ingenuity of Bowie's 70's floorshow and the wild spirit of Tom Waits" (MOJO Magazine) and to the "cabaret angst of '70s Lou Reed, dust bowl Mariachi, and Steely Dan's cynicism" (UNCUT Magazine). The album features guest appearances from the legendary Robyn Hitchcock and Terry Edwards (Nick Cave, Spiritualized, PJ Harvey.)
Last Man Standing formed after singer Max Vanderwolf moved from his hometown of New York City to London in 2002. Vanderwolf met his to-be guitarist Chris Cordoba at an AA meeting daytrip at the Chelsea Flower show. After an initial period of hesitation lasting 6 minutes and 37 seconds, Vanderwolf and Cordoba dropped out of AA and began recording Vanderwolf's next collection of songs with the assistance of a despicable assortment of cruisers, losers and substance abusers. Soon Last Man Standing was named "London's Best Unsigned Band" by The Guardian newspaper, leading to the courtship of many record labels, of which they chose the acclaimed Wildflower label.

The band has been touring non-stop since the album's release in June, most recently making its Australian debut with shows in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney following a stop in London and a triumphant homecoming to Knowles' native Isle of Man (in the Irish Sea between Belfast and Liverpool).
To coincide with the U.S. fall tour, superstore Best Buy is hosting a series of guitar clinics presented by Best Buy Musical Instruments at which Knowles, the 22-year-old singer, songwriter and guitar prodigy, will perform live in the store and discuss guitar playing, highlighting his learning curve as an artist, his style and his equipment. He will also touch on what it's been like to work with guitar masters such as Peter Frampton, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Warren Haynes and Paul Reed Smith during his short, but meteoric career. The first of the guitar clinics took place on Sunday, November 22 at the Best Buy in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed that evening by the band's appearance at The Shelter in Detroit.
