Singled Out: Spider Rockets |
"Kiss You Dead" started with a verse riff. John, our guitar player, came up with it when he was jamming one dayhe liked the way it felt and sounded and brought it to the band. The riff made me think about someone close to me and their current personal relationshipI'm not going to say who, because I'll get in trouble.. Anyway, it wasn't a very flattering take on that person's girlfriend.
The band jammed on the riff and lyrics and a melody line began to develop. We all decided the riff was a good verse and a chorus riff got added in. As we jammed on that, Bones, our bass player, came up with the bridgea nice break from the rest of the song that set up the final chorus. We, then, we worked on the song structure. Dan, our drummer, worked in the drum fills to set up the choruses. We demoed the song and brought it to Eric Rachel, our producer, who thought the music for the chorus was too happy sounding. John changed the chords, giving the chorus a meaner feel and the band worked on it together and tweaked it to make it right.
