KISS For Grandma?
antiMusic reports: Now Grandma can get in on all that KISS merch with KISS Bingo! We're totally serious, the band announce this latest whoring of their likeness on Thursday. Of course, they whore Peter and Ace's images and not those other guys wearing their make-up.

Yes it was a slow news day, so here is part of the exciting announcement which basically gives the instructions for how to play bingo (we'll leave that alone): The Classic game of Bingo meets KISS.

Players choose a Bingo Card to begin the game. There are 24 numbers per card plus a free space in the center of the card. The numbers run from 1 to 75. Once the game begins, the caller selects numbers at a random and calls them. As soon as the caller calls out a number, all the players place a Bingo Chip on that number (if the number is on their card). The winner is determined when a player completes a winning bingo pattern (a line - either vertical, horizontal or diagonal, a full card (when all the numbers are to be covered or any pattern that the caller determines to be the winning combination prior to the game beginning).

Julian Lennon Reissued
conqueroo reports: When a son of John Lennon announces his own musical career and shows up looking and sounding very much like his iconic dad, critics and listeners alike are bound to react with arms firmly folded. But Julian Lennon's gifts as a songwriter quickly broke down skepticism and sent the young artist soaring up the American album and singles charts.

Three of his original Atlantic Records albums have long since fallen out of print, only to be reissued by Noble Rot, a subsidiary of Collectors' Choice Music in the Infinity Entertainment Group. The albums The Secret Value of Daydreaming, Mr. Jordan and Help Yourself will hit retail on September 8, 2009 (the day before the remastered album catalog of his dad's group appears in stores). Author Gene Sculatti wrote the liner notes.

Lennon's first single, "Valotte," and "Too Late" from his 1984 Phil Ramone-produced Valotte album notched the No. 9 and 5 positions on the Billboard pop singles chart. The platinum-certified album received a Grammy nomination, and Sam Peckinpah directed the videos. With much to prove, Lennon released his follow-up, The Secret Value of Daydreaming, also produced by Ramone, in 1986. Billy Joel sat in on piano. With both the single ("Stick Around") and the album both attaining the No. 32 spots on their respective charts, the album showed Lennon to be a songwriter of considerable versatility.

Singled Out: Bobby Long
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Bobby Long tells us about "The Bounty Of Mary Jane" from his brand new album "Dirty Pond Songs". We now turn it over to Bobby for the story:

I wrote this song during a sleepless night. I had done everything to try and sleep and was reading magazines and books, hoping my eyes would dwell on some words and knock me out. I played endless DVD commentaries, but everything seemed interesting and drew me in.

While looking for something I found a free DVD from a paper called "The Bounty". Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins are in it, and it's based on a boat during the times when Britain ruled the seas. I watched it and dreamt my way through it. At the end of the film I drifted off into a sleep and dreamt the whole film ending in my head.

It's not a particularly great film but I ended up falling in love with a woman in it. I woke up having a kind of intense sympathy for her and tried to write a song for her. I had previously written a finger picking riff for a Jesse James film I was working on, but I decided to use it for this song. I felt it was a good starting point. I wanted to push myself playing wise with this song and get away from the folk finger picking that I usually do. I tried to keep intensity with this song by having space and simple picking in the root chord, giving it rhythm. I never usually like the ohh and ahhs in songs. Sometimes they can be an easy replacement but they gave the song a morose and melancholic feel that somehow seemed to give a good crossover between parts.

I tried to re-watch the film and I quickly realized that my interpretation that I had dreamed was nothing like the film, even the woman was different. It's quite funny now because some people think its about weed, but then again maybe it is.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
