Steve Wynn Week: Day 3 |
Bring The Magic: This is actually an older song although it got a new life in this project. I wrote the song with my old friend and collaborator Chris Cacavas back in 2000 when he was working on an instrumental chillout dance project called Chromo Valdez. I had the audacity to suggest that this particular instrumental was just begging for words, for a story to tell and gave him the lyrics. He was happy, I was happy and then we promptly forgot about the song. When I began planning "Crossing Dragon Bridge" I found the demo and realized it fit perfectly into the dreamy, cinematic, other-worldly feeling we were attempting with this record. And those Czech violinists really can wrap themselves around a 70's Philly soul arrangement as it turns out

Singled Out: Obi Best |
"Who Loves You Now" is about ghosts, but not in the ghoulish sense. I feel that I'm never really in a relationship with just one person. I'm with my current boyfriend and the ghosts of every other person I've been with because their influence lingers, shaping each new relationship. Actually the album cover for my band's debut album, "Capades", is based on this concept and song.
But it's not all that heavy. When I sing the line "who loves you now?", I'm directing this question at past boyfriends, asking it not in a jealous or prying way but more with a curious tone. Maybe I'm flirting a bit too. And I'm not concerned really with who's loving them so much as whether or not they're being loved at all.
