10 Years Return with Division in May |
Creativity isn't manufactured on an assembly line. It can't be scheduled or forced and when it's not coming there's nothing to do but wait. That's what the members of Knoxville, Tennessee quintet, 10 Years, discovered when they started writing songs for their second album, Division, the follow-up to their debut The Autumn Effect. Having spent the better part of two years on the road, the band members planned in October 2006 to take a month off and then dive back into writing mode. They aimed to re-enter the studio in early 2007 and have their second album done by that spring. But just a few weeks after they started coming up with riffs and melodies, it became clear they were going to have to throw away the calendar. "You don't just come off the road, decide you're gonna write and magically come up with a really good record without really searching your soul and putting in the effort," says drummer Brian Vodinh. "It doesn't work that way."
"We could have met our deadlines and gone into the studio in January," clarifies singer Jesse Hasek. "But we decided early on that we weren't going to allow ourselves to run through the motions. We felt like we really needed to challenge ourselves and do something fresh and different. And that took a little longer than we expected."

Valient Kidney Donor |
As Valient Thorr is on a single-minded mission to spread their message of redemption wrapped in rock n' roll, this is another chance to illuminate a critically important issue that people don't think about unless they are personally touched. Says Valient, "If I can go from a hospital bed to playing in front of a crowd of 75,000 at the UK's Download Festival in just eight weeks, people out there might consider becoming organ donors as well. If they have family members who need a kidney, it's definitely something to think about; and if not, they can still learn about designating themselves as organ donors on their driver's license."

3 Doors Down Biggest Radio Hit of 08 |
Their much anticipated fourth studio album has spawned rock's biggest radio hit of the year so far, with the debut single becoming the fastest moving song at Active Rock radio in the past five years. The #1 most added song at Alternative radio the past 3 weeks in a row, "It's Not My Time" was also the biggest Gainer at the coveted rock radio format, leaping from #20 to #16 as it closes in on the prestigious 50,000 mark in digital sales in less than a month of release.
"The early radio success of "It's Not My Time" is an incredible indication of more great things to come from this band and this album," stated Monte Lipman, President & CEO of Universal Republic Records. "3 Doors Down have become a signature presence in rock through hard work and passionate songwriting that speaks directly to their audience. They have delivered a career-defining album that we cannot wait to get into the hands of fans."

Behind The Doors |
The year was 1967. The music industry was going through an upheaval as the old guard was giving way to a youth culture revolution that turned thought, sound and politics inside-out and upside-down. In the midst of all this, one of, if not arguably the greatest rock'n'roll debut album ever, came out of Los Angeles. Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Kreiger and John Densmore forever changed the way music was not only made but ingested. The Doors' self-titled debut changed the rules of rock forever.
The Doors features its three surviving members newly interviewed about that heady rush, that intoxicating thrill, accompanying the creation of a masterpiece.
Emmanuel Jal Takes on 50 Cent and Violent Hip Hop |
Jal, who was forced to fight in the Sudanese People's Liberation Army from the time he was about six years old until he dramatically escaped the rebel army when he was about 13, sees hip-hop as one avenue to peace, tolerance and literacy for millions of African youth. A practitioner of what he calls "conscious" hip-hop, Jal told the conference, "American hip-hop is still entwined with gang culture, drugs, sexual violence and greed. It's a battleground," he said of the music style's opposing images. Former prime minister of Tanzania Frederick Sumaye, who also attended the conference, agrees with Jal, stating, "Hip-hop can help [Africa]. A music group is not an army, but it can get social messages out before trouble starts."
Jal will see his new album, "Warchild," released on May 13, and on one of the CD's songs, "50 Cent," he calls out to the successful U.S. rapper to take care with his violent messages exemplified by his "Bulletproof" videogame, and how they influence young people. "You have done enough damage selling crack cocaine now you got a kill a black man video game / There ain't a Jewish or a white man Chinese or an Indian blowing up the brain of their own fellow man / We have lost a whole generation through this lifestyle now you want to put it in the game for a little child to play / Bugga bun 50 Cent." -- From the song "50 Cent" on the album "Warchild"

Danielia Cotton a Rare 70s Child |
The Philadelphia Daily News concurs, stating "Danielia's music has the swagger of 'Let It Bleed' era Rolling Stones, her singing has the raw emotional power of Janis Joplin and her songwriting places her among the top new musical storytellers."
Cotton's natural gift-- raw, searing vocal chops combined with a deep, buttery tone-- draws from the two different rich traditions that she absorbed in her youth: she couldn't get enough of the AC/DC, Zeppelin, and the Stones that her friends and neighbors were listening to but she was also her mother's girl: the daughter of a jazz singer and member of the church gospel choir, grooving to Mavis Staples, Etta James, Billie and Ella.
