Tyler Ramsey - A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea Review

I had a longI had a longI had a long listenI had a long listen before writingI had a long listen before writing this review. If you showed the resilience to get to this point of my review, you may have enough patience to enjoy Tyler Ramsey's A Long Dream The new album from the newest member of Band of Horses is a great indication of why Ramsey was brought into the fold of such a successful band. He is a brilliant guitarist with a soothing voice, very much like Neil Young of Harvest and prior, but with the edge of a butter knife, like a less commercialized Dan Fogelberg.

Tyler Ramsey is a perfect fit for Jackson Browne's "These Days", a track which does a more credible job of reminding one of Browne's talents than Paul Westerberg's effort a few years ago. After "A Long Dream" brings on a wakeful coma though, "Ships" is the song that proves this a damn good album. Like "Wichita Lineman", this is the song that will forever be identifiable with Ramsey. Written mostly in 2nd person, "Ships" could be written for anyone and everyone. Being "seaworthy", it is a wave that tremors long after its peak.

A Long Dream... is not an adrenaline rush, or even close as quick as Band of Horses, which is often easy listening in its own right. In fact, those who've never appreciated folk music probably will not appreciate this effort, but anyone who has ever found music relaxing, should sit back and enjoy the art of A Long Dream...

Tracks added to iPod: A Long Dream, Ships, These Days, When I Wake, Worried
