Ill Nino Week: Day 4
antiMusic reports: Ill Nino are back with a new album on a new record label. The band are really fired up for this next chapter in their story and with their new album, 'Enigma,' hitting stores this week we asked frontman Cristian Machado to pick his five favorite tracks from the CD and tell us about each one. Here is Cristian with today's song "Compulsion of Virus and Fever":

"Compulsion of Virus and Fever" is about the human addiction to war and violence - the human obsession with death - and the human conquest for answers we will never have.

You can hear some tracks from the 'Enigma' CD, grab tour dates and more - right here

Goth Murder
guardian.co.uk reports: A student was beaten to death by a drunken gang in a town park because she and her boyfriend were dressed as goths, a court heard yesterday. Sophie Lancaster, who was 20, died after she vainly tried to protect her boyfriend 21-year-old Robert Maltby from kicks and punches, a jury at Preston crown court was told.

The couple were targeted in Bacup, Lancashire, by five teenagers who behaved "like a pack of wild animals", Michael Shorrock QC told the court in his opening speech. The killers celebrated their attack on the goths - or "moshers" - by telling friends afterwards that they had "done summat good", and claiming: "There's two moshers nearly dead up Bacup park - you wanna see them -they're a right mess."

Police who arrived at the scene could not tell whether the young woman was male or female because of her horrendous injuries. Shorrock told the hearing: "Sophie and Robert were singled out not for anything they had said or done but because they looked and dressed differently. Kicks and stamps on their heads and body followed as the gang goaded each other on." - more on this story

NIN Spark Revolution?
antiMusic reports: Later in today's Day in Rock report we will tell you how Alan Jackson will top the Billboard charts having sold 119,000 copies of his new CD last week. But Nine Inch Nails sold almost 7 times as many copies of their digital only instrumental album during the same week. This comes without any label support at all. Imagine how many copies they could sell this way if the album had vocals? Radiohead fought the first skirmish, but it looks like Nine Inch Nails may have just sparked the real revolution, where bands with dedicated fanbases can bypass the label system all together. Here is the announcement they sent out:

Nine Inch Nails' 36-track instrumental opus Ghosts I-IV, released March 2 via NIN.com, has amassed a first week total of 781,917 transactions (including free and paid downloads as well as orders for physical product), resulting in a take of $1,619,420 USD.

"These figures represent the most relevant and contemporary metric for measuring how Nine Inch Nails' music is reaching its fans," said NIN manager Jim Guerinot. NIN's label The Null Corporation will not be releasing traditional sale figures to soundscan. - more on this story

Reuters reports: Actress Valerie Bertinelli has said her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen is not in rehab, but she declined to say exactly what is ailing the rock guitarist, People.com reported on Wednesday.

This month rock band Van Halen, which Eddie co-founded with his brother Alex, canceled its tour dates until April 19 and said the 53 year-old guitarist is undergoing medical tests. But the band has not divulged details of his illness. - more on this story

Classic Struggle Injury
Lambgoat reports: The Classic Struggle has cancelled a few shows following an injury to vocalist Tim Zlinksky, who recently shattered his wrist. Zlinsky has surgery earlier this week to "rebuild his wrist with a metal plate and some screws." The group comments:

"To make sure the surgery went well and everything in his wrist is adjusting well, we have to be back home for a follow-up appointment. As a result, we have to cancel the dates March 23rd - 27th.

"We deeply appologize to everyone in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota who was looking forward to seeing us on those dates. We absolutely hate canceling shows, but we must in order to make sure that we are able to continue with the rest of our scheduled shows this spring/summer. - more on this story

Trade Sperm for Tickets
antiMusic reports: Today's silly story comes courtesy of Hecklerspray: If you've missed out on tickets to this year's festivals like T In The Park, V and Glastonbury, you can still get a chance to go. All you have to do is wank! Yes simply place your man sap in a jar, send it off and you could be experiencing the joys of festivals around Europe. Sorry ladies, it's a no go for you. But why not try and water some mayonnaise down and pass it off as your own reproductive bodily fluid anyway?

Honestly, this doesn't appear to be an offer from some sort of mad fetishist who wants samples of sperm delivered to his home so he can bath in it or something. It's quite the opposite of that actually. Whilst Ireland is full of leprechauns, Guinness, pikeys and rubbish preaching rock stars, it is short on one thing. Sperm. And this essential ingredient that is needed for everyone to reproduce is in short supply.

Everyone loves the Irish. Without them we wouldn't have a pointless excuse to neck countless pints of Guinness for a novelty hat. Would we really want to see them disappear off the face of the planet? As the NME reports: "Sperm donors are to be offered free tickets to any music festival in Europe under a new initiative. Irish stocks are apparently dwindling, with demand far higher than is sustainable, and donations down by 40% over the last four years." - more on this story
