A Folk Song Called Mr. Rock & Roll |
A native Scot and self-taught musician, Macdonald has already achieved double- platinum success in the UK for her keen ability to create simple, yet compelling stories. She has spent the past 18 months touring Europe, opening for Paul Weller, meeting her one-time hero Pete Doherty and headlining her favorite music venue Glasgow Barrowlands.
This Is The Life features Macdonald opining on everything from indulgent and self-destructive pop stars on the dark and venomous track "Poison Prince," to their so-called celebrity counterparts on the lamenting ballad "Footballer's Wife." Emerging from an album laden with hits, "Run" creates a powerful sonic experience that builds from a whisper to a masterful crescendo of vocals, solidifying Macdonald's standing as a singer experienced far beyond her 20 years of age.

The Modey Lemon CD and Tour |
With one foot in the sci-fi darkness of their last record The Curious City, one foot in their past garage angst-ridden wreckage and one foot in the Krautrock brilliance of the German Frontier (three feet?) Season Of Sweets is a fuzzed out, driving masterpiece with catchy hooks beaten to death by guitar/synth mayhem and the anchor of Paul Quattrone's drums of passion.
As primitive as it is futuristic, Modey Lemon is recreating the present, molecule by molecule, every second of every breath.

Railroad Earth Coming Next Week |
Written and recorded at lead singer/songwriter Todd Sheaffer's 300 year-old farmhouse in New Jersey's rural countryside, Amen Corner is, literally and figuratively, the rustic sound of a band happy to be at home.
"Normally," Sheaffer explains, "you come home after six weeks on the road and jump into the studio, all frazzled because you don't have much left in the tank. This time I feel like we've invited our friends into our living room and that's basically how we recorded it. We wanted for years to try working this way and I'm so happy we were finally able to do it."

Eric Solomon Interview |
What made you want to be a musician?: My brother Rom was my first influence. He was a man of so much style and always around music. He was a DJ at first and used to spin all those funk and soul jams when we were in Africa. He would be get them from the states and everybody would come to him for the latest and the baddest. He then went to University for production and had a bunch of musical equipment in his basement and when I used to get there for vacation, I was blown away at how cool it was.
Did you always want to be a musician?: No. I never thought I would and never took music seriously. I remember clearly the day it all switched for me. I was evacuated from Africa couldn't really speak to my parents and find out how they were doing cause the phone lines were messed up due to the war. One day, I was hanging with my cousins and we passed a construction site that was really loud, but through the noise I could clearly hear this symphony. I could hear the stings, and piano, and vocals and whatever else was there. It was incredible because it was like I developed musical antennas all of sudden and I could pick up any frequency that I wanted. Kind of like a musical superpower. I knew at that very moment, that that was what I was put on earth to do. After that I could pick up anything and intuitively play it. I feel blessed.
