Pierre de Reeder (Rilo Kiley) Week: Day 1 |
I'll Be Around: It's interesting, there are a number of songs that sort of haunt me as I writing them. Maybe haunt is not the right word... it's more they just kind of continually loop in my head, mostly the melody, throughout a day or two and into the night long after I've turned out the light and try to go to sleep. I think it's a good thing, I've found that when that happens it's sort of indicates, to me anyway, that it's worth pursuing. Anyway, this was one of those. Maybe because it's a simple, straight forward kind of song, I don't know.
This is one of the ones on the record where I played everything myself. Which is something I've done over the years more as a just a practical way to realize a song as I'm recording at home alone. It's the only song where the drums that I recorded in my basement made it on the record. The others were either re-done or done from scratch at the studio (Kinsize, in Eagle Rock).

Guns N' Sex Parties for Axl |
In "Watch You Bleed", Stephen Davis' new bio of the California rockers, Rose recalls, "There was a lot of indoor and outdoor sex . . . People would show up at all hours and we'd talk the girls into climbing into our loft, and somebody would hit the light and go, 'All right! . . . Get naked or leave!'
"This one girl, she [bleep]ed almost the whole band, friends of the band, and the band next door. Two days later, she comes back and goes, 'Axl, I'm having your child.'
Forget "the Dirt," it sounds like the tale of the real most notorious band in rock n' roll is about to hit shelves.

Her lingerie line Pleasure Principle - named after a song that no-one really knows about from 1987 - apparently aims to make women feel feminine and sexy. At least she's not set out to make ladies look hairy, butch and transgender. Janet said: "People have come to me with other ideas, but lingerie is a passion for me, and just like music and acting, I can't do it unless I put 100% into it." Staind No Match for Boyband |
Blabbermouth has the story: According to Hits Daily Double (the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS), Staind's new album, "The Illusion of Progress", is poised to sell around 95,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release to debut in the Top 3 of The Billboard 200 chart. Hollywood's teenpop heartthrobs Jonas Brothers will occupy the No. 1 in their second week on the chart.
The new Jonas Brothers album sold 525,000 copies in its first week, entering the chart on Wednesday (August 20) at No. 1. Even if they sell half that amount in their second week, Staind guitarist Mike Mushok said, "Half of that is more than what we'll sell, and it's good for those guys." Mushok added, "All I can say is, we've been here for 10 years, and this is our sixth record. I feel proud to be able to say that. If it's not No. 1, it's not No. 1 what are you going to do?"
Frontman Aaron Lewis said about the Jonas Brothers phenomenon, "It's just a different version of the boy-band thing all over again...It's Hanson 2008, with Disney behind them...How do you compete with that?"

However, according to several online reports from fans who went to the Ford Amphitheatre expecting the band to play, the announcement of the cancellation wasn't made until approximately 10:15 p.m., infuriating the roughly 6,500 STP fans who were none to thrilled to hear this so very late into the evening.
One fan wrote Blabbermouth.Net, "The storms they were attempting to lay blame on were in North Florida and were not impacting Central Florida or South Florida where they had played in Hollywood, Florida two days prior.
Misheard Lyrics of the Day: Standing On Your Mother's Corpse |
Today's misheard lyric is to Bryan Adams' "Summer of 69" and the lines "Standing on your mother's porch / You told me that you'd wait forever. / Oh and when you held my hand, I knew that it was now, or never. Those lyrics have been misheard as "Standing on your mother's corpse / You told me that you'd wait forever / Oh, and with the hammer in my hand / I knew that it was now or never." Inspired by the Manson Family murders from the summer of 69 perhaps?
If you have a misheard lyric we'd love to hear from you. See the contact link at the bottom of the page for how to get a hold of us to tell us about your favorites. If you want to check out more misheard song lyrics like this one you can go
Driving While Diddy |
We're told the other three cars in the entourage stopped as well. It's Sheriff Dept. policy to call for backup when other cars linger at a traffic stop. Backup arrived and the driver of the second car became "extremely uncooperative," to the point he had to be detained. At that point, Diddy and the remaining five or six members of the entourage got out of their cars and began walking toward the detained member of their posse.
That's when one deputy drew his weapon, not knowing what the dudes were up to. We're told at the time the weapon was drawn, deputies did not know Diddy was part of the group.
