Amplify Week: Day 1 "Home" |
Here they are with today's song: Home- This track was lyrically inspired by the events of September 11, 2001. Bobbie was actually an employee who worked in Tower One after the collapse of the towers he spent weeks volunteering in the recovery efforts at Ground Zero. While there he found himself profoundly moved by the many people he met.hearing their emotionally devastating tales of lost friends, brothers, sisters, wives and husbands were his inspiration for, in my opinion, this very moving piece of work.
While most of our songs have been said to have many elements of prog-rock and metal, we decided to keep this particular song straight-ahead and to the point. We wanted a composition that would be timeless and really stand out from being labeled into any particular genre of musicas Bobbie stated, "although inspired by those tragic events that touched us all deeply, we feel the message is a universal one of Hope, Love and Strength after tragedy."

Bon Jovi Bomb Threat |
The threat turned out to be a hoax, courtesy of someone calling from a cell phone with only 911 capabilities, authorities said. It was unclear if Sunrise police had any suspects. Police did not return numerous messages and pages seeking information Saturday evening.
Sunrise police received the threat sometime around 6 p.m. from a caller saying they would blow up the arena with two bombs at 7:57 p.m., said Sunrise Commissioner Sheila Alu. She said the police had several bomb-sniffing dogs sweeping the arena. "We are taking this very seriously to ensure the safety of all concertgoers," Alu said.

Guns N' Roses Almost Reunited |
When asked if an alternative to this heated situation between him and the rest of VELVET REVOLVER would that they all cool off, do their separate projects and then regroup and see how the land lies, Weiland replied, "I think they should get GUNS N' ROSES back together, to tell you the truth. I think that would be the greatest thing that they could do. I think the world would be very happy.
"If they could stop talking trash about Axl [Rose, GN'R singer] in the press. It almost happened. The pens were ready to sign. With the 'Greatest Hits', there was a possibility [of a reunion], but there was too much stuff being said. But it was a close call. I would love to see that happen, as a Guns N' Roses fan. I'd pay to see it."

Metallica For Halloween? |
Blabbermouth has the story: Amazon.com is currently listing an October 28, 2008 release date for the new METALLICA album. It should be noted, however, that this information has not yet been corroborated by the band or the group's record label, Warner Bros. Music. METALLICA has set up a web site at MissionMetallica.com that says it will offer fans a chance to "experience the new album before it's done."
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told RollingStone.com that the band intends to explore "everything" in terms of selling its music once its current recording contract expires. But although the group's upcoming ninth studio album is its last with Warner Bros., Ulrich said they would be hesitant to follow in the footsteps of U2 and MADONNA and sign a comprehensive "360 deal" with Live Nation.

Idol's Lowest Ratings in Five Years |
Wednesday night's telecast lost 700,000 viewers from the previous week and had the lowest ratings among 18-49 year-olds in five years. Last week 23.3 million people tuned in for the results show but this week the number dropped to 22.6 million.
Still an insane amount of viewers but the ratings have been sliding all year as it looks like more and more Americans are tuning out. At this rate Paula might disappear back into obscurity within a couple more seasons. Then you'll have to do a bar to get your fix of karaoke. But we'll have to wait and see.

Johnson Bores as Prince Soars at Coachella |
Billboard had this to say about Friday's performances, "Mellow singer/songwriter Jack Johnson brought the first day of the annual Coachella music festival in southern California to an underwhelming end. His performance at Indio's Empire Polo Field on Friday was evidently not compulsory viewing for all of the approximately 60,000 or so attendees. Prior to Johnson, reunited UK rock outfit the Verve commanded the main stage... Serj Tankian's politically fueled appearance at the Outdoor Theatre sent a jolt into the late evening audience." read their full review
While Johnson's mellow style may have underwhelmed on Friday night, Prince apparently painted the desert purple with an explosive set of his hits, some unexpected covers and collaborations. Aside from his standard set of hits, Prince was joined on stage by Morris Day for a performance of "Jungle Love" and then Sheila E jumped on stage for "Glamorous Life". But the real treat for some was to hear Prince perform two classics by other bands when he launched into Radiohead's "Creep" and then The Beatles' "Come Together".

Eddie Van Halen Health Update |
There are still no public details on exactly what ailed, or ails, the guitarist, but he says, quote, "I feel excellent. I'm healthier than I've ever been. It's wonderful."
VAN HALEN resumed its reunion tour with singer David Lee Roth on April 17 in Reno, Nevada, followed by a performance in Las Vegas on April 19 at Tiger Jam XI, an annual fundraiser hosted by pro golf star Tiger Woods.

Crue Cryptic About Lee's Status |
At the time the news first broke -- by way of a lawsuit the band had filed against its former manager, which stated, "Lee recently informed [bassist Nikki] Sixx and [guitarist Mick] Mars that he was resigning from the band, and his resignation was accepted" -- the Crue's representatives would neither confirm nor deny Lee's ouster. So ever since, like most of the band's fans, we'd simply assumed Lee was done with the Crue -- that, perhaps, spinning records as a celebrity DJ was more his speed. Considering all this, Metal File must admit we were awfully confused by Lee's appearance with the band in Los Angeles, when the boys revealed their upcoming Crue Fest tour. So when we had the opportunity to sit down with the band following the press conference, we just had to ask: What's the deal with Tommy?
Of course, the Crue have been in the rock and roll game long enough (make that 27 years) to know how to dodge a few questions -- which is precisely what they did. "You know, it's so funny," started Sixx. "[Saints of Los Angeles] is loosely based on the book 'The Dirt,' and originally, we were going to call it The Dirt. But this society, where it's at right now, is so ridiculous. It's all about gossip. Everything is gossip. It's demented to have people standing in line at the grocery store, reading something they know is a lie and buying it. And so, that's the thing with this band -- we fit into that perfectly. Mick just told me a few minutes ago that he found out he's dead, on the Internet. That's the second time that's happened to him. I have one death, and he has two. I'm jealous."

Phil Collins Quitting Music |
In an interview with The Times newspaper, Collins said he had no plans to tour again and that any future writing was unlikely to become an album.
Unusually, the former Genesis star chose to make his announcement by reciting the lines of a famous Basil Fawlty sketch.
