Motley Thru? - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Now Lee has reportedly issued a statement contradicting that. It reads, "I am a founding member of Motley Crue. Based on internal band issues aired publicly, my future with the band is uncertain. I have tried to meet with my bandmates repeatedly without success but have informed them that I'm not walking away from my band of 25 years.
"It troubles me that the current legal issues which were filed by the corporations against my personal manager are separating us and causing more dysfunction. I hope we can work this out amongst ourselves."
The original lawsuit accuses Stubner's of mismanagement of Lee when he advised him to star in two failed reality shows that made him look "incoherent, lazy and incompetent," which not only provided some reality for reality TV- more on this story
Outlaws / Skynyrd Legend Dies - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Lynyrd Skynyrd issued a statement on their website "With our deepest sympathy we have lost another one of our brothers to the rock and roll heaven. We had many a good time writing and playing with Hughie and spent many miles on the road together. God bless his family and all the fans that love Hughie for his playing and singing. Out hearts and prayers go out to his family. He will be truly missed. Fly on Free Bird."
Thomasson was a founder of the legendary southern rock band The Outlaws and stayed with the band through several lineup changes, breakups and reformations. During their career they produced 13 albums and amassed a loyal following. Following one of their breakups, Thomasson joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 and stay with them up until the 2005 reunion of the Outlaws.- more on this story
Zeppelin Reunite - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
The event will take place at the O2 Arena in London on November 26 and aside from Led Zeppelin, The Who's Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini have all signed on to perform and promoter Harvey Goldsmith hinted during the press conference that the show may see another reunion, this one with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and former Stones member Bill Wyman.
In all the hoopla surrounding this event, organizers and the band aimed to keep the focus on why it is taking place- Ahmet Ertegun. Profits from the event will go the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund. And his widow Mica gave the event her seal of approval, "He would be very proud that Led Zeppelin have chosen to re-unite and headline a benefit concert in his name featuring so many of his friends."

Britney Bombs - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
We here at the Day in Rock didn't tune in since what they try to pass off as music there seldom lives up to the name unless you are a fan of autotune, over production and insipid lyrics, so we can't give you a first hand account but a reporter from AP was able to stomach the show and reports that Britney was in bottom form and "looked bleary and unprepared.'
The AP roast goes further than that. Here is a little taste, "She lazily walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. It appeared she had forgotten the entire art of lip-synching; and, perhaps most unforgivable given her once taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape." - more on this story
Radiohead Finish CD - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood says that the band is considering their options at the moment so no firm release date or guess at one is available at the moment. They finished their contract with EMI with the release of 'Hail To The Thief' in 2003 and opted not to renew their deal with the music giant.
"We just had a meeting about that today," Greenwood told Paste Magazine last week.- more on this story

Osbourne Blames Courtney Love For Son's Drug Addiction - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Sharon apparently believes that Courtney Love encouraged her then 15 year-old son Jack to take Oxycotin. This begs the question of what sane parent would let their kids hang around a known junkie? (both Love and Jack have since cleaned up).
"I will never have time for Courtney Love. There's not a shadow of a doubt about that. My dislike for her is very personal," Sharon said according to Gigwise. "I'm not saying Jack wouldn't have taken it if she hadn't given it to him, but I'm appalled that an adult mother would give that to a 15-year-old boy. How could she do that to someone else's child?" -
Kid Rock Beats Up Tommy Lee - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Hecklerspray details the fight. "At some point during last night's MTV VMA show, Pamela Anderson's ex-husbands Tommy Lee and Kid Rock got embroiled in some kind of schoolgirl slap-fight that ended when Kid Rock punched Tommy Lee, who was then dragged off by security."
"It looked like Tommy Lee initiated it because Kid Rock was ignoring him," rap producer Rich Nice, who was two tables away told AP "And Tommy Lee kind of antagonized him. And then when Tommy Lee stood up, it looked a little weird, like 'Yo, what?' When Tommy stands up is when Kid hit him the first time with a backhand. And then Tommy Lee looked like he was trying to get at him to aggressively retaliate and then Kid Rock hits Tommy Lee again - bong. And then security grabs Tommy Lee in a headlock and pulls him off."
Of course, Tommy sees the whole thing in a different light than the witnesses.- more on this story

MTV spoke with their manger Nick John who wouldn't provide many details about how Hinds was injured but did tell them that he also suffered a broken nose and two black eyes during the mysterious incident that took place around 3 a.m. Monday morning after the band performed with the Josh Homme at the VMAs.
We can probably discount rumors that Britney sat on him.- more on this story

The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans. 'We hate to let people down and are very sorry.' Fans can obtain refunds for their tickets at point of purchase."
The band was supposed to tour behind their latest effort, the much hyped "Icky Thump" which dropped seven spots this week on the Billboard charts to No 51 after 11 weeks on the chart. This is just a couple spots ahead of Kelly Clarkson who was forced to cancel a tour earlier this year due to lack of interest. - more on this story
50 Cent Heading for Retirement - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
We used to have wait a week to see how new releases are selling but no more with SoundScan's recent launch of "Building Charts" which charts sales from some of the leading retailers. Billboard.com says that "The Building Charts offer an indication of how races shape up each week for SoundScan's final charts, which post projected national sales each Wednesday morning, extrapolated from a panel of merchants that represents more than 90% of the U.S. music market."
So how did each one do on the first day? Kanye logged 437,000 sales for his new one "Graduation," and Fiddy's "Curtis" sold 310,000 copies. If the trend continues West will easily top the Billboard chart next week. - some credits

Axl Vs Security Guard - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
The guard, Gary Armijo, filed suit in the Los Angeles Superior Court on August 29 and claims that during a concert at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles in December of 1996, Axl "intentionally kicked [him] in the head proximately causing severe physical injuries." We were at the show in question (it was December of last year) and did not witness such a headkicking, but there was a spot where someone tossed a drink on stage and that set Axl off a little, so it may have happened then.
Of course, Axl says this lawsuit and allegations are BS. At least his attorney does and says they have video to prove it. Howard Weitzman, Axl's attorney spoke with TMZ shortly after they ran a story about the lawsuit and said, "The allegations in this lawsuit are frivolous. There is video of this incident which contradicts the allegations against Axl. Axl vehemently denies he did anything wrong which will be proven via witnesses and the video. Unfortunately anyone can file a lawsuit whether it has merit or not. In my opinion this is a pathetic attempt to get money from Axl." - read the lawsuit here

Terrorist Wants to Behead That "Whore" Britney Spears - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
Muhammad Abdel-Al, the senior leader of the Palestinian terror group The Popular Resistance Committees took special aim at the pop stars in an interview featured in the new book 'Schmoozing with Terrorists: From Hollywood to the Holy Land Jihadists Reveal their Global Plans - to a Jew!' by Aaron Klein which reportedly asked Islamic extremists what would happen to the U.S. under Islamic Sharia law. And it's not good for MTV.
"If I meet these whores I will have the honour - I repeat, I will have the honour - to be the first one to cut the heads off Madonna and Britney Spears if they will keep spreading their satanic culture against Islam," pronounced Abdel-Al.
But he gives the two pop stars hope of saving their heads in the event that the US ever comes under Islamic Fascist rule, "If these two prostitutes keep doing what they are doing, we of course will punish them.- he's not done! He's just about to get medieval on their asses
We Are Not For Sale - A Top Story for the week of 9/10/07 |
I felt it was important to address this with you, our readers, and state clearly that in the nine and half years we have been online we have never once engaged in this. In fact, we stopped working with a couple of labels that engage in this practice and you will not see any coverage for the artists we were approached about today (in fact, we also cancelled an interview with an artist we have been trying to interview for over a year because the same PR firm was working his latest project.*). No need to name names, as the label and band's had no idea this was being done in their name (but if we see some ads for them cropping up in the coming weeks on some sites we may have to let the cat out of the bag so you will know who is for sale and who isn't.) We do very little direct advertising here as we are too busy developing articles to concentrate on being salesmen or women. And yes, we do lose money almost every month because that is our focus and that is fine. If faced with the choice of selling out or shutting down, we will shutdown in good conscience.
Music critics get a lot of criticism themselves, which is totally understandable given the subjective nature of the medium and most honest critics wouldn't have it any other way. But I have to reiterate that we here at antiMusic got into this out of a love for music. Plain and as simple as that. So be assured that when you read a review or editorial on antiMusic you are getting the writer's honest opinion. Our editorial policy has always been that we let the writers have the freedom to write what they are inspired to write (with only politics being frowned on). Our review policy is simple. We get over a hundred CDs submitted to us each month and our writers then select the ones they wish to review. It really is as simple as that and that's why you will find some major releases right next to a unsigned band (and won't find some bigger releases reviewed here).
Also the stories in the Day in Rock are included because we feel they will be of interest to you, our readers, and we do try to mix it up to offer as broad of coverage as possible in all areas. We have always had an open policy with coverage, when readers ask us to cover certain artists we do. As long as we are online that will never change and as long as I am the editor you will never once see any article on antiMusic that was paid for. It may not seem important to you, but it is at the utmost importance to us. With the record biz being tainted enough in other areas you do not need to be exposed to bogus reviews that were purchased with the aim to trick you into buying a CD with your hard earned money. This not only hurts the fans, but the bands and all legitimate artists as well. We may not see another ten years online because we resist this practice but we'll happily go into bankruptcy with our integrity intact. - Keavin Wiggins / Editor antiMusic Network- more on this story
