The Last Goodnight Week: Return to Me
antiMusic reports: This week we asked The Last Goodnight's Kurtis John to tell us about his five favorite tracks from their major label debut Poison Kiss. Today Kurtis tells about "Return to Me":

Before I left for LA, we had 100+ songs written in demo form. We wanted a ballad on the album, and we felt that Return to Me was emotional and powerful enough to stand up with the rest of the songs as they were shaping up on the album. It's a song where I feel I have to leave everything out there on the stage or we're not doing the song justice.

Police Eye New CD?
Gigwise reports: The Police's guitarist Andy Summers has hinted that the band might consider recording a new album after their reunion world tour finishes.

Originally there had been no plans for the band to record new material, however, Summers has said that he would now consider it a "challenge."

"It's sort of like living with the elephant in the room," Summers told AP. "I would see it as a challenge, to make an absolutely brilliant pop album at this stage of our career, and that would be something quite remarkable"- more on this story

NIN Drop Record Co
antiMusic reports: Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has been very public about his dissatisfaction with some label policies including what he saw as overpricing of the band's latest CD in Australia to which he was told that the label charged that much because the fans would pay it. That didn't sit well with Trent and during a recent concert Down Under he encouraged his fans to steal his music instead of paying inflated prices. Now Reznor won't have to worry about such things as he announced on Monday that Nine Inch Nails are officially free agents having left their record company behind. Here is his message:

Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label.

I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.

Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed- more on this story

Green Day Not Impressed with Scene They Inspired
antiMusic reports: In bitter turn of irony Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong finds the current scene stagnant making the recording of their new album difficult. The irony comes from the fact that most "emo" groups are built around imitations of Armstrong's nasal vocal style. Gigwise has the report:

Green Day have a huge 45 songs primed and ready to record for their new album but say they're finding it hard to draw inspiration from the current 'stagnant' music scene.
Peter Pan-esque frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explains that the band are in the midst of a chaotic writing process in studios in Oakland and California, and that they hope to whittle down the songs soon.

"We've been doing this for 20 years now. You want to make sure you're being honest with yourself. I also have to ask myself 'what's real out there?' Right now, it seems stagnant."- more on this story

Paul Bostaph Recording New Testament Album
antiMusic reports: When Testament needed a drummer for the recording of their new album, only the best would do so they called on their longtime friend Paul Bostaph (Slayer) to fill in for Nick Barker who couldn't take part due to via issues.

Here is the official announcement: Paul Bostaph will join the ranks alongside originating classic thrash legends Chuck Billy on vocals, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar, Eric Peterson on rhythm guitar and Greg Christian on bass.

Unfortunately Nick Barker will not be recording with TESTAMENT on this new album, due to Homeland Security and International Work Visa issues.

Rather than delaying this long awaited return of TESTAMENT, the band has chosen to recruit Paul Bostaph, long time friend and member, to record on the much anticipated album, which is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2008 release via Nuclear Blast.

Radiohead Cause EMI To Look To The Future
Gigwise reports: Guy Hands, the new owner of EMI Records, has told his employees that they must look for digital alternatives to the music CD.

Hands' request was made in a confidential email to EMI staff just days after Radiohead - a former band of EMI - announced that they would allow fans to choose the price of their new album, 'In Rainbows.'

In the email, Hands reportedly described Radiohead's decision to offer the album as a download as a "wake-up call" to the company. He added: "The recorded music industry... has for too long been dependent on how many CD's can be sold, rather than embracing the digital revolution and all the opportunities is brings for promotion, the industry has stuck its head in the sand."- That's not the only thing Hands is challenging, Gigwise has more

Illness Kills The Decemberists Tour
antiMusic reports: Bad news from the The Decemberists camp. Seems an illness have forced the band to nix the remaining dates on current tour. The upcoming US dates appear to still be a go at this point as they are still listed on the band' Myspace. Here is the announcement: With much regret The Decemberists have cancelled the remainder of our European tour. One of our band members is ill and needs to return immediately home to mend.

Our deepest apologies to all of our fans whom have purchased tickets to our forthcoming European shows. Unfortunately our calendar doesn't allow us to return to Europe at any point soon so please refund tickets at point of purchase.

It saddens us to disappoint our fans. We hope everybody understands that it is because of an extreme situation that we had to make such an abrupt change in plans.

Ex-Judas Priest Denies Child Rape, Plans To Write Book
Metal Underground reports: A former rock star convicted of trying to rape a teenage boy in his Northamptonshire cottage is to write an expose of his life story when he is freed from prison. Dave Holland, the ex-drummer of heavy metal band JUDAS PRIEST, always denied any involvement in the attempted rape of the special needs student but was convicted of the crime at Northampton Crown Court in January 2004 and sentenced to eight years in jail.

Author Neil Daniels, who has now written and published The Story of Judas Priest: Defenders Of The Faith, claims Holland wrote to him from his prison cell and is planning to write a tell-all biography of his life and career, as well as appeal against the court's decision.

The letter, dated November 2006 and published in full in Mr Daniels' book, said: "I was convicted of a crime that I didn't commit and like so many others in similar situations to the one in which I find myself, an offence that never even existed in the first place... - more on this story
