Madonna
Hate Crime? |
E! reports: If Madonna doesn't change her
ways, she could be going from "Hung Up" to locked up. German prosecutors
have announced plans to monitor the erstwhile Material Girl's Sunday concert
in Duesseldorf to see if she goes ahead with the mock-crucifixion routine
that has been drawing religious ire since her Confessions tour kicked off
in May.
If Madonna goes through with the Jesus-channeling
act and the locals find it insulting, she could face a maximum sentence
of three years in prison. Meaning, Madonna's next reinvention could be
as an inmate.[see full story for more]- Click

Surgery |
ultimate-guitar reports: Disturbed vocalist
David Draiman has had surgery to repair his stomach and lungs for an acid
reflux problem, and now he's set for another operation. Draiman has had
a rough time trying to keep his voice in shape for Ozzfest, but with some
vocal exercises and proper rest and nutrition he's counteracting the drying
out of his vocal cords.
The vocalist said that a deviated septum
caused by three broken noses forces him to breath through his mouth, drying
out his vocal chords. [see full story for more including a video of David

Cornell
Solo Details |
PR reports: Chris Cornell, the singer-songwriter
who brought us Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has announced
the 13th album of his career. Working with Grammy Award-winning British
super-producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Morrissey, Dave Matthews
Band), pre-production on the album has already begun, recording will being
in September and the album is set for an early 2007 release on Interscope
Records.
Cornell, inspired by songwriters from Elvis
Costello to Bruce Springsteen, says that his own lyrical approach leans
on stream-of-consciousness, "getting out of my own way" to allow themes
to naturally arise, whether topical or biographical. "The most exciting
thing is to let yourself expose your true, vulnerable feelings, which is
what resonates with people most," he explains. As far as his vocal style,
he points to such R&B singers as Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin for
showing masterfully how emotion can best be conveyed, even in subtle phrasing,
also praising Bob Marley's expressive range and Tom Waits' use of his voice
as an instrument.- Click

RIAA
Drops Dead Case |
music.tinfoil reports: BoingBoing's Cory Doctorow
writes: Today, an RIAA spokesperson, Jonathan Lamy, contacted me today
with this statement: Our hearts go out to the Scantleberry family for their
loss. We had decided to temporarily suspend the productive settlement discussions
we were having with the family. Mr. Scantleberry had admitted that the
infringer was his stepson, and we were in the process settling with him
shortly before his passing. Out of an abundance of sensitivity, we have
elected to drop this particular case.
I wrote back to ask him this followup question:
Where was the "abundance of sensitivity" when the RIAA failed to initially
drop its case against the Scantleberry family following the death of the
named defendant in the case? Given that this "abundance" only materialized
within 24 hours of this story hitting several large news outlets and blogs
isn't it fair to say that the RIAA is demonstrating sensitivity to its
public image, and not its sensitivity to the Scantleberry family?[see full

Cheech
and Bolton? |
antiMusic reports: Cheech won't be teaming
up with Chong. Could it be Michael Bolton instead? Only from the mind of
Simon Cowell Yes Simon has a new TV show that debuts on August 29th on
that bastion of high quality intellectual stimulation FOX. No, it's not
When Idols Attack, it's Celebrity Duets. The premise is simple, match a
star (or formerly a star) singer with a celeb (that may or may not have
used up their 15 minutes of fame) for a duet each week with the requisite
elimination.
On the celeb side you have Cheech Marin,
Lucy "Xena" Lawless, Lea Thompson McFly, Alfonso Ribeiro (Fresh Prince),
wrestler Chris Jericho, Olympic gold medalist Carly Patterson, Queer Eye
for the Straight Guy's Jai Rodriguez, Queer As Folk star Hal Sparks. [see
