Music Sales Down

(TuneLab) A new report says recorded music sales in the U.S. fell 6.1 percent in the first half of 2006, led by a 14 percent drop in CD sales. The retail value of music sales also fell to $4.9 billion in the first six months of 2006, according to the Los Angeles Times. Declines in the demand for CDs and other traditional formats still outweighed the large 86.6 percent jump in digital music sales. Digital music sales more than doubled worldwide in the first half of the year to $945 million, and digital sales now account for 11 percent of the total recorded music market.
