Brokeback
Fraud |
TMZ reports: [not music related but an interesting
read...] Randy Quaid has filed a lawsuit claiming he was done in by producers
of 'Brokeback Mountain.' TMZ obtained a copy of the lawsuit, filed Thursday
in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming producers falsely represented the
movie to him as "a low-budget, art house film, with no prospect of making
any money." Qauid claims the representations were a ruse from the beginning.
'Brokeback' has grossed around $160 million.
Quaid's suit claims that in 2004, he met
with director Ang Lee, who offered him the role of Joe Aguirre. The suit
alleges that Lee told Quaid: "We can't pay anything, we have very little
money, everyone is making a sacrifice to make this film." The suit does
not specifically state how much Quaid made, but it does claim that the
defendants "were engaged in a 'movie laundering' scheme designed to obtain
the services of talent such as Randy Quaid on economically unfavorable
art film terms..."- Click

Top Mum |
hecklerspray reports: You know when you're
trying to find a suitable Mother's Day card - basically a folded piece
of paper that somehow makes up for you breaking your Mum's heart by never
calling when you say you will?
And you know how a lot of those Mother's
Day cards have To The World's Best Mum written in huge pink letters all
over the front of them? Well, don't buy the cards that say that, because
those cards are covered in lies. Your Mum isn't the best Mum in the world.
Sharon Osbourne is the best Mum in the world. How do we know that Sharon
Osbourne is the best Mum in the world? Because people who buy stuff from
Freemans Catalogue told us, and that's as good as gospel. [yup she's the
ideal 21st century mum for those that advocate the breakdown of the family..

Sonic
Youth Details |
CMJ reports: Now that Sonic Youth has sent
out early copies of their latest LP, the long national nightmare of trying
to figure out the album's title and tracklist is finally over. It looks
like the new record is called Rather Ripped, not 'Sonic Death' or 'Do You
Believe In Rapture?' as previously reported. "Do You Believe In Rapture?"
has instead been reserved for one of the track's names. Rather Ripped will
be out June 13 on Geffen.[see full story for tracks]-

in June. For the follow-up to last year's "Out of Exile", singer Chris

DMCA Fix? |
tinfoil reports: The Digital Millennium Copyright
Act (DMCA) has been wreaking havoc on consumers' fair use rights for the
past seven years. Now Congress is considering the Digital Media Consumers'
Rights Act (DMCRA, HR 1201), a bill that would reform part of the DMCA
and formally protect the "Betamax defense" relied on by so many innovators.
HR 1201 would give citizens the right to
circumvent copy-protection measures as long as what they're doing is otherwise
legal. For example, it would make sure that when you buy a CD, whether
it is copy-protected or not, you can record it onto your computer and move
the songs to an MP3 player. It would also protect a computer science professor
who needs to bypass copy-protection to evaluate encryption technology.
