Punks |
punkbands reports: Rolling Stone Magazine
has released a list of the 30 richest musicians for 2006. So where does
Green Day fall? At #12, sandwiched right between Kenny Chesney(#11) and
Coldplay(#13). Some of the artists who didn't pull in as much cheese as
Green Day this year include Jay-Z, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, and Dr Dre.
[nothin says punk rock like $31 million bucks. see full story for the full
rich list.. Motley Crue made more money than Fiddy. Guess Tommy will have

Small
Faces Special Edition |
Noble PR reports: Issued in mid-1968, Ogdens'
Nut Gone Flake was a truly groundbreaking album in so many ways. Quite
apart from containing some of the Small Faces' finest moments, it was one
of the first 'concept albums', side 2 featuring a novel narration from
comic Stanley Unwin which punctuated songs following the quest of Happiness
Stan to find the missing half of the moon! In packaging terms, too, it
broke new ground, housed in a lavish foldout circular LP sleeve, inspired
by an old tobacco tin.
Now Sanctuary pays homage to this seminal
album by releasing a new 3-CD Deluxe Edition; featuring the stereo mix,
a companion mono version (previously unavailable on CD) plus a further
CD of BBC Radio 1's Classic Albums' documentary on the making of the band.
Originally transmitted in 1989, this last bonus disc features interviews
with all four band members: singer/guitaristSteve Marriott, bassist Ronnie
Lane (along with Steve, the band's songwriting backbone), organist Ian
McLagan and drummer Kenney Jones.[see full story for more]-

SXSW
Stomped |
conqueroo reports: The line outside the Continental
Club stretched down the block last Friday night, as the Ponderosa Stomp
SXSW Showcase part of the Louisiana Initiative at SXSW and sponsored
by Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company and the New Orleans Musicians Gig Fund,
via a generous grant from Rolling Stone took a packed house on a whirlwind
trip to the Gulf Coast. A veritable dream team of Mardi Gras Indians, swamp
poppers, garage rockers, rockabilly heroes, soul singers, and R&B shouters
were on the bill for the party, a sneak preview for the Ponderosa Stomp,
scheduled for the Gibson Guitar Factory in Memphis, Tennessee May 8, 9
& 10. Spanish moss hung from the microphone stands as Shreveport, Louisiana
native DJ Fontana best known for pounding the tubs on Elvis' early sessions,
recorded a half-century ago this year took the stage with dueling guitarists
Charlie Sexton and CC Adcock, bassist Kenny Bill Stinson, and a variety
of vocalists, including swamp pop godfather Warren Storm, who belted out
a vicious version of "Hound Dog" to a rapt audience, before fellow swamp
popper Tommy McClain served up his own hits, including versions of "Sweet
Dreams" and "Before I Grow Too Old."[see full story for more] -

Special Ops reports: Susan Cagle will release
her unique debut album The Subway Recordings on May 23rd, 2006. On her
own and as an official part of the "Music Under New York" program, Susan
Cagle has become an underground sensation in New York City - literally.
Since 2002, the striking 25-year-old has become one of the most popular
singer/songwriters ever to play for tips on a Manhattan subway platform
(she has already sold more than 30,000 copies of her self-made recordings).
It was at the 34th Street station along the N/R lines that Susan first
caught the attention of producer Jay Levine who later introduced her to
the executives at Columbia Records. [see full story to hear the single

Kylesa
Update |
Prosthetic reports: Savannah sludge rockers
KYLESA will be back on the road on the East Coast this spring to continue
supporting 2005's critically-acclaimed To Walk A Middle Course. Landing
on a handful of year-end lists, the band will take that buzz on the road
alongside a variety of other acts including Municipal Waste, Baroness,
Victims, and labelmates Yakuza.
Last month, Kylesa settled on a replacement
for the band's vacant drummer position: 2 of them. "Since the dawn of Kylesa,
it was our intention to have two drummers but at the time it didn't pan
out," the band says. "Finally, after 5 years it has become a reality and
two new members have been added to play drums: Jeff Porter from Detroit
and Carl McGinley of Savannah (who also drums for the Unpersons). We feel
that this is our strongest line up as of yet and new and old songs are
coming along great." Kylesa is currently writing material for the follow-up
to the band's Prosthetic debut, To Walk A Middle Course. [see full story
