Vatican Vs Madonna
AP reports: Madonna's plans to stage a mock crucifixion during a Sunday concert in Rome have drawn fire from religious leaders, who have condemned the stunt as "an act of open hostility" toward the Roman Catholic Church.

"To crucify yourself in the city of the pope and the martyrs is an act of open hostility," Cardinal Ersilio Tonini was quoted as saying in La Stampa daily on Wednesday.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Scam Lee Roth
BW&BK reports: One sure way to lose money in the concert business is to pay an advance deposit to a scam artist posing as a booking agent. These frauds are not uncommon and are generally low priority matters when reported to police.

Such is the case with a con man posing as the agent for DAVID LEE ROTH. At least three different U.S. nightclubs were taken in by the scam and two of them, including The Venue in Scottsdale, Ariz., lost thousands of dollars in deposits.

Diamond Dave switched his representation in May from CAA to Monterey International where Garry Buck is the responsible agent. The scammer appears to be working out of the Chicago area and has used a variety of names. Much to the real agent's chagrin, he has even claimed to be "Gary Buck."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Metallica Muzak
Blabbermouth reports: How many sleepless nights have new parents spent trying to soothe a restless newborn? With the August 29 release of "Lullaby Renditions of Metallica", a solution is on the way. Enter Sandman.

That's right, the music that set the standard for aggressive, concussion-inducing rock will soon be lulling infants to sleep through dreamy re-workings of their head-banging fury. Classics like "Battery" and "Master of Puppets" feature glockenspiel, vibraphone, melotron, harps, bells and more. The music is arranged and performed by Michael Armstrong. Part of the Rockabye Baby! series from Baby Rock Records, the METALLICA edition includes 11 of the band's most well-known songs. Tony Ogden RIP
thetripwire reports: Some sad news was just forwarded to me regarding the Britpop group World Of Twist. Although they never made a blip here in the States, they did achieve success with songs such as "The Storm" and "Sons Of The Stage." They may have been best known for their cover of The Rolling Stones' "She's A Rainbow," produced by Martin Hannett. The band's career ended abruptly in 1992, with frontman Tony Ogden leaving the life of rock & roll and retreating to his family's home in northern England.

Although the cause is still unknown, the cult Madchester icon passed away on July 26. The songwriter was working on demos for his new project, The Bubblegum Secret Pop Explosion, up until his death. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
