GNR
Scam |
BW&BK reports: On Friday afternoon, 307
Downtown had GUNS N' ROSES' 'Welcome To The Jungle' cranked on the stereo
and at least one employee was doing frontman Axl Rose's signature snake
dance. That day, venue managers sent in a deposit for a solo Rose gig on
May 26th and felt certain they had booked the biggest show ever at the
club.
By Saturday afternoon, the song and dance
came to a halt: Following a front-page story in Saturday's edition of The
Daily Advertiser, Rose's booking and management company e-mailed the club's
management, asking why they were disseminating false information.
"We both came to the conclusion that it
(the booking) was fraudulent," said Chad Fouquier, 307's entertainment
coordinator.[see full story for more]- Click

Mamma
Mia! No! |
antiMusic reports: Hollywood seems to be so
creatively bankrupt at the moment that they are forced to keep returning
to one of the darkest periods of popular entertainment-the 70s. It seems
that every terrible television show of the era has been made into a feature
length movie within the past few years but for the most part they have
shied away from resurrecting 70s pop music. That was until now. The suits
at the film studios are so afraid on new ideas that they are willing to
bring back Abba in all its gory [not a typo] for the mass consumer market
and boomerbots to rush in their SUVs to the nearest multiplex and lay down
$10 bucks to look back at the me decade through the rose colored glasses
of nostalgia.
Who best to lead this assault upon good
taste but one of Hollywood's most overrated actors-Tom Hanks. Hanks production
company Playtone has signed a deal with the producers of "Mamma Mia!" to
bring the musical based on Abba's hits to the big screen. Don't underestimate
the nostalgia power of the boomerbots, the stage musical has brought in
a whopping $1.6 billion worldwide since it first assaulted Londoners in
1999. Expect this screen epic sometime in 2007 and perhaps a big screen
version of "Bosom Buddies" won't be far behind.- Click

Unsexiest |
Blabbermouth reports: GUNS N' ROSES frontman
Axl Rose, MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister and NICKELBACK singer
Chad Kroeger are among the 100 Unsexiest Men in the World, according to
ThePhoenix.com. After pouring through thousands of photographs, millions
of frames of movies and TV shows, the staff at ThePhoenix.com has compiled
a list of the least sexy males on the planet.
Kroeger, who makes the list at No. 6, is
included in the Top 100 not just because of "the massive head, weird face,
and bad hair," but "also the fact that he's in NICKELBACK, the worst band
since the dawn of music"[see full story for more]- Click

Poison
Film |
Blabbermouth reports: Syndicated newspaper
columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith are reporting that POISON
lead singer Bret Michaels who's gearing up to head out on the group's
"20 Years of Rock Tour" next month will go before the cameras by year's
end in a film based on his own life if all goes as planned.
"I've been working on this for two years.
It's a true dramedy, and we're going to start shooting after I finish the
20th anniversary of POISON tour," said Michaels, who overcame juvenile
diabetes to become a world-famous rocker. But, he said, "I'm not going
to play the star. I'm going to play the personal assistant who watches
this guy's life. When people see what I wrote they'll see it's like nothing
else out there. It's a combination of funny and real and sad and hilarious."[see

Anthrax
Powerless |
Blabbermouth reports: ANTHRAX's concert in
Gothenburg, Sweden Wednesday night (April 19) lasted only a few minutes,
according to a BLABBERMOUTH.NET source that was present at the gig. Halfway
through the opening song, "Among the Living", the band's amplifiers, vocalist
Joey Belladonna's microphone and the monitors all went dead and the band
was forced to leave the stage. The crowd was told that there was a power
problem, but was asked to stay put while it was being fixed. The house
PA and speakers worked as per usual, seeing as music was played while an
attempt was made to fix what appeared to be "a poweramp to the backline
or something like that," according to another attendee.
More than an hour later, an announcement
was made that the show had to be cancelled due to "severe electrical problems."
