Mamma Mia! No!

(antiMusic) Hollywood seems to be so creatively bankrupt at the moment that they are forced to keep returning to one of the darkest periods of popular entertainment-the 70s. It seems that every terrible television show of the era has been made into a feature length movie within the past few years but for the most part they have shied away from resurrecting 70s pop music. That was until now. The suits at the film studios are so afraid on new ideas that they are willing to bring back Abba in all its gory [not a typo] for the mass consumer market and boomerbots to rush in their SUVs to the nearest multiplex and lay down $10 bucks to look back at the me decade through the rose colored glasses of nostalgia.

Who best to lead this assault upon good taste but one of Hollywood's most overrated actors-Tom Hanks. Hanks production company Playtone has signed a deal with the producers of "Mamma Mia!" to bring the musical based on Abba's hits to the big screen. Don't underestimate the nostalgia power of the boomerbots, the stage musical has brought in a whopping $1.6 billion worldwide since it first assaulted Londoners in 1999. Expect this screen epic sometime in 2007 and perhaps a big screen version of "Bosom Buddies" won't be far behind.
