Proof
Victim Dies |
antiMusic reports: The man that was shot by
rapper Proof has died from his injuries. Keith Bender Jr., 35, died early
Tuesday at St John's Hospital and Medical Center.
According to witnesses, on April 11th,
Bender got into a heated confrontation with Proof at C.C.C., a club along
Eight Mile Road in Detroit. Eminem protege Proof reportedly shot Bender
in the head after arguing about a pool game.
Bender's cousin and also a bouncer at the
club, Mario Etheridge, then spot Proof three times in the head and chest.
The shots proved fatal and the rapper was pronounced dead at a near by
hospital upon arrival. [see full story for more]- Click

RIAA
Vs Bush? |
tinfoil reports: GW Bush's iPod contains "illegal"
(according to RIAA) music In the video linked [at the full story link],
we see that President Bush's iPod contains songs by the Beatles; since
no Beatles songs have been licensed for the iTunes Music Store yet, these
must have come from ripped CDs. Remember last February, when the RIAA told
a federal agency that ripping CDs is illegal? I wonder if they'll bring
charges."[see full story for more]- Click

Rap
is Bad |
MTV reports: If you listen to rap music, you're
more likely to use alcohol and drugs and to behave in an aggressive manner
at least according to a new study by the nonprofit Pacific Institute
for Research and Evaluation.
More than 1,200 California community-college
students ages 15-25 took part in the study titled "Music, Substance Use
and Aggression" and answered survey questions about their music-listening
habits, use of alcohol and drugs and "aggressive behaviors," such as fighting
or threatening people with violence.[see full story for more]-

AFI
Escape Plan? |
antiMusic reports: Could it be that the Dillinger
Escape Plan are going to team up with AFI for a summer tour? The PRP reports
that it has been confirmed but the DEP clan are a bit more cryptic about
the whole subject. Writing on their Myspace blog on Monday the band confirmed
they have plans to tour with another (unnamed) band and they would roll
out some new material but they left who they are touring with a mystery.
"WE ARE PLAYING SHOWS IN JUNE AND JULY. I can't let the cat out of the
bag just yet as to what they are or who they are with, but we are gonna
do a little something during that time, and will more than likely rip out
some fresh new songs in those shows too, so bring your recorders haha.
There will be more info announced soon about the shows." So could the cat
be AFI? That band has announced a few upcoming shows, including some in
June and July. So stay tuned, it might be happening. [see full story for
confirmed AFI dates that may or may not include DEP]-

Bad
Ozzfest Trip |
antiMusic reports: It appears that Bad Acid
Trip or their label had some money to burn as the band has been added to
one of the rotating slots on this year's Ozzfest. Or perhaps main stage
headliner System of a Down called in a favor with Sharon Inc? Bad Acid
Trip will be on the tour promoting their 2004 Serjical Strike release "Lynch
The Weirdo". (Serjical Strike is SOAD's Serj Tankian's vanity label and
the band's CD was produced by SOAD's Daron Malakian).
Still no word on who that mystery mainstage
band is going to be. But we have finally been able to rule out Clay Aiken
and N Sync. Our money is now on Kelly Osbourne, so bring lots of eggs.

Victory
Vs iTunes |
antiMusic reports: Absolute Punk has posted
some rather interesting reported leaked emails between Apple head Steve
Jobs and Tony Brummel of Victory Records. If these emails are indeed genuine,
then it appears that the big dispute between Apple and Victory is not that
Apple was unwilling to feature the label's music (which Jobs offered to
do) but Brummel's wanting special treatment for his label (as well as his
ego). After Jobs told Brummel "I don't see us doing a major PR campaign
around this - we have too much on our plate that's more important to our
music efforts right now. But we can get your music on iTunes. What's holding
that up?" Brummel responded, "At least I now know that being the ..1 Independent
Record Label in the biggest music market in the world has no meaning to
Apple." And apparently the major labels were not greedy enough to Brummel's
mind, "The majors were not thinking when they gave you their content for
free without negotiating a % of each hard drive sold and/or equity in Apple
or bonuses on increases in the company's valuation." Again these are reportedly
leaked emails between the two CEOs that were exchanged on April 12th but
the Absolute Punk article does not provide a source. Click over to read
the full exchange and learn how great Victory Records is. -

Drunk
Halen |
antiMusic reports: Sorry Van Hagar fans, chances
are slim for a regrouping of the group unless Mr. Eddie Van Halen seeks
professional help for his addictions. This according to Sammy Hagar who
is gearing up for a summer tour with his fellow VH bandmate Michael Anthony
in a band they are calling "The Other Half".
As for hopes of a Van Hagar reunion, this
is what Sammy had to tell Billboard: "There were some real problems in
the band. I have to tell you, there were nights I didn't know what song
Eddie [Van Halen] was playing. There were times I wanted to kill that guy
for what he was playing. I would have left that tour in the middle of it
if it wasn't for the professional aspect. He's never going to see my ass
again unless he goes and gets himself some help." Click on the full story
