A7X
Vs Atreyu |
Victory reports: Feuds aren't just for rappers
and former ska band members anymore. Orange County's Avenged Sevenfold
called out neighbors Atreyu publicly in U.K.'s rock weekly, Kerrang, with
M. Shadows claiming "Atreyu are leading the scene that we want to get out
of. They're part of it and we're not. I wouldn't say we are f***ing friends."
He goes on to accuse Atreyu of ripping off a song intro while band mate
The Reverend maintains that there is no rivalry to speak of! The fair,
balanced journalists at Kerrang! gave Atreyu a chance to respond in this
week's issue. Vocalist Alex Varkatzas was dismissive, saying, "As far as
we knew we were on good terms with the guys, having toured with them briefly
in the past. We were looking forward to seeing them again on the Warped
Tour so we're slightly taken aback by all of this. I guess if you're not
down with Atreyu, you can go f*** yourself." Kerrang! took the last word,
saying, "We hear ya, buddy." With both bands spending the long hot summer
on tour together, anything could happen - this bad blood could dwarf the
likes of The Killers vs. The Bravery, 50 Cent vs. The Game, Kelly Osbourne
vs. Christina Aquilera and even the classic beef between David Lee Roth
and Sammy Hagar over fronting Van Halen. [see full story for more]-

Live
8 Failure |
Contact Music reports: SIR BOB GELDOF predicts
his LIVE 8 concerts and protest marches will fail to force the hands of
international leaders - but he will be safe in the knowledge he did everything
within his power to relieve poverty in Africa.
The BAND AID icon hates the work involved
with organising such huge scale events, but he would have struggled to
live with himself if he hadn't taken action, just as he did with 1985's
legendary BAND AID concerts. [see full story for more]-

White's Side Gig |
Aversion reports: Jack White of the White
Stripes will be recording an album with a brand-new outfit.
Joining singer/guitarist Brendan Benson,
White's next record will be from Raconteurs, a band that ditches the Stripes'
guitar-and-drum minimalism for a more traditional twin-guitar attack. They

Ra's
Duality Explained |
Day in Rock reports: In anticipation of the
release of Ra's sophomore album, we were given some tidbits about the release
and why it's named Duality. - Ra recorded, produced and mixed 70% of Duality
in Sahaj's parents' Upstate NY home and his own Sun God Rock studios in
East Rutherford NJ, four songs of which were collaborations with producer
Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Seether, Shinedown, Saliva).
Divided into two parts, the first labeled
"Fear," the second "Love," Duality's dialectic covers a wide range of emotions
in its journey from despair to hope. The intensity of "Take Me Away," interspersing
howling guitars, tribal rhythms and Sting-like vocals, is juxtaposed with
the reggae beat of "I Lost Everything." The Middle Eastern flavor and U2
feel of "The Only One" segues into the harmonic arena-rock of "Say You
Will," while the wrenching distortion of "Taken" forms a counterpoint to
the lush landscape of "Swimming Upstream," which unflinchingly views an
unrequited love with measured regret. - Check out the full story link to

Skynyrd
Illness |
liveDaily reports: Southern rockers Lynyrd
Skynyrd have mapped out a lengthy summer tour itinerary, but an illness
has temporarily waylaid the group's roadtrip.
The band has postponed planned stops in
New Jersey and New Hampshire on June 14 and 15, respectively, while singer
Johnny Van Zant recovers from "a severe case of strep throat" that he "has
been battling for the past month," according to a press release. The illness
also forced the band to scrap its scheduled appearance at this week's CMA
Music Festival in Nashville. [see full story for more]-

Darkness
Orchestra |
Blabbermouth reports: THE DARKNESS have now
left the Welsh studio they were based in for the past few months recording
their new album and have moved to a London studio to complete guitarist
Dan Hawkins' guitar parts and singer Justin Hawkins' vocals.
As for indications of what the follow-up
to "Permission to Land" sounds like, a report on the band's web site claims
that the record will contain major orchestrations in the form of string
arrangement by Paul Buckmaster, famous for his work with MILES DAVIS, THE
ROLLING STONES and ELTON JOHN. [see full story for more]-

Rock
School Expelled |
Blabbermouth reports: "Rock School", the documentary
about the real-life "School of Rock", has closed after just one weekend
on a handful of screens. Sources told Launch that after a very light box
office, Newmarket Films opted to cancel the remaining nationwide openings
with no word about whether they'll be rescheduled. "Rock School" is about
the Paul Green School of Rock in Philadelphia, where students high school-aged
and younger learn to play rock music in a structured setting. Alice Cooper
makes a cameo appearance, performing his hit "School's Out" with some of
the students as the end credits roll.[see full story for more]-
