Mr.
& Mrs. Smith |
press release reports: Commitment-phobic co-dependents
rejoice! Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, out
June 7 on Lakeshore Records, is the album of and for dysfunctional relationships.
Following the film's story of a married couple who lead double lives as
spies - and have been hired to kill each other - the album mirrors the
passion and tension between stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with a choice
selection of love and anti-love songs.
The love/hate relationship is played out
on the album with a mix of classic, unreleased and exclusive songs. The
classics include the J. Geils Band anthem "Love Stinks," Poison's "Nothin'
But A Good Time," Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" and Air Supply's "Making Love
Out Of Nothing At All" (Pitt sings along to the latter in the film's climactic
car chase). Consisting of 17 tracks, the album contains all the songs from
the film's most memorable moments, including the scorching sex scene between
Pitt and Jolie, played out to Magnet's sensual cover of the classic Bob
Dylan song "Lay, Lady, Lay." Add to this new covers of such timeless love
songs as Modern English's "I Melt With You" (by contemporary French art-popsters
Nouvelle Vague), countered with the over-the-top rendition of Bon Jovi's
"You Give Love A Bad Name" by Victory Records' exploding new metal/screamcore
band Atreyu, and the album stands alone as the perfect summer-love party
mix. 8 mm contribute an exclusive cover of "Nobody Does it Better," adding
a woozy yet orchestral twist to the theme from the classic James Bond film
"The Spy Who Loved Me," and the Voodoo Glow Skulls take on Guns N' Roses
"Used to Love Her (But I had to Kill Her)." - Click

Tremolo
Debut |
press release reports: Oakland, CA-based Tremolo
is set to release its debut full-length album on August 9th. Entitled "Love
Is The Greatest Revenge," it will be released on FLAGSHIP Recordings with
national distribution via Fontana. The disc is actually a re-working of
an album that was available previously via online outlets (CDBaby, Amazon,
iTunes) and will feature remixes of four of the tracks as well as two brand
new songs and a re-recording of the track "Promise Ring" (produced by John
Painter [Ben Folds]). Tremolo is the brain child of songwriter Justin Dillon,
and the album also features contributions from a number of players: Steve
Bowman (Counting Crows) on drums; Max Butler (Chuck Prophet), Julian Coryell
(Aimee Mann) and Dino Meneghin (Liz Phair) on guitars; Kris Pooley (Jane's
Addiction) and Ben Patterson on keyboards; and Tim Hogan (Anna Nalick)
on bass. The album was mixed by Joe Zook (Sheryl Crow, Mick Jagger, Jewel).
The touring version of the band has a rotating line-up which is always
fronted by Dillon. >From the catchy grit of "Evil Twin" to the gorgeous
lilt of "Promise Ring," Dillon & Co. meld the bluesy, dirty guitars
of The Stones and T-Rex with the lift-you-even-higher, anthemic bombast
of U2, and tie it up in a hugely attractive package known as Tremolo. [see

Big
Noise From Springfield |
conqueroo reports: Springfield, Missouri has
bubbled under the "next big scene" radar since 1982 when The Morells emerged
from Lou Whitney's studio with the prototype American roots-rock album
Shake & Push. Not youth-driven enough to compete with Akron or Athens,
Springfield retreated to the background. But now, in 2005, it's getting
ready to erupt for real. Once again, the man behind the action is Whitney,
charter member of The Morells and The Skeletons, and his studio, dubbed
succinctly The Studio.
HighTone Records of Oakland, California,
is now in the process of putting Springfield music back on the national
map by releasing four Whitney-produced CDs - The Morells' Think About It,
The Bel Airs' Got Love, The Domino Kings' Some Kind of Sign, and Brian
Capps' Walk Through Walls - and sponsoring a cross-country tour featuring
all four acts. Billed as "Big Noise from Springfield," the tour kicks off
on Friday, August 12, 2005, with a live two-and-a-half-hour broadcast over
XM Radio Channel 12, X Country. The program, the first live XM concert
broadcast of its type, will be repeated in its entirety several times;
portions of it will then be aired on several different XM Satellite Radio
channels. - Click
