Mike
Doughty Returns |
Girly Action reports: For the first time since
the days he fronted Soul Coughing, Mike Doughty is back with a full band
on Haughty Melodic. With collaborators including ATO records founder Dave
Matthews and N.E.R.D. drummer Eric Fawcett, the new release reveals that
Doughty is a master at crafting melodies into rich, memorable songs. Haughty
Melodic again shows what an "audacious wordsmith" (SF Weekly) he is.
The 12 original heartfelt tracks are a
backdrop for big beats and complex sounds including the anthem "Looking
at the World From the Bottom of a Well," the soaring "Unsingable Name,"
and the yearning "White Lexus." "Tremendous Brunettes" features a duet
with Dave Matthews and backing vocals by Dan Wilson, who sings on many
tracks. ... [The CD will be out on May 3rd]- Click

Valley
Arena Release |
Earshot reports: The Valley Arena's Take Comfort
In Strangers is in stores today on Astro-Magentics.
Fusing dissonant indie rock with pop smarts,
The Valley Arena's exhilarating noise at once brings to mind the stark,
angular stylings of bands such as Fugazi and early Q and Not Q and the
smart, slightly off-kilter pop side of art-punks such as The Fall, Talking
Heads and Wire.
The Valley Arena plan to tour throughout
the remainder of the spring and summer. A special, free CD release party
will take place May 7th at Cafe Bistro in Long Beach, CA. Watch for them
on the Vans Warped Tour from June 30th-July 2nd. [see full story for more]-

Order Hometown Camaraderie |

report] In a recent Rolling Stone article, New Order front man Bernard
Sumner spoke of the camaraderie that is shared between Manchester's most
notable musicians. New Order has been involved in the city's close-knit
music scene for over twenty-five years and has never felt the urge to leave.
"I'm not quite sure why there's so many good groups that come from Manchester,
but there does seem to be a big musical heritage here", Sumner said.
New Order just released a new album entitled
"Waiting for the Siren's Call", their first studio effort since 2001's
"Get Ready". The band is set to go out onto the road and is scheduled to
