'We're being really crazy about the different collaborations that we're diving into," Kimberly Perry said. 'We got to hang out with Pharrell a couple weeks ago. He's like a huge country music fan, and he also really loves what we do with harmony. One thing that we worked on with him was this song where all three of us sing different interwoven vocals on the verse and on the chorus." Radio.com spoke with The Band Perry last year and while they were tight-lipped on the new material, they did give us some clues as to what to expect. "As opposed to Pioneer, which is all about being the underdog and rising above circumstance, this album has a lot more of a fun atmosphere around it," Reid Perry said. "When it even comes to the songs that we're choosing to start working on, it's all about, 'How does it make us feel?' If it makes us feel good and if has a fun vibe about it, that is the path that we are walking down.' Read more here.
For Thicke it was $5.66 million, while Pharrell Williams took home $5.15 million and T.I. pocketed $704,774, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But what about how much it takes to make a hit single? That answer is $6.9 million in the case of "Blurred Lines," which a Universal Music Group executive revealed during the trial. If that figure seems astounding, which it should, you might be surprised to see how quickly $6.9 million adds up when you look at the individual costs of "Blurred Lines" via Forbes, which talked to a handful of industry executives that pieced together an itemized bill. The biggest fees for the single would have been marketing and promotion, which includes Thicke's travel expenses to talk up his song around the world. His travels abroad, including a performance at MTV's Europe Music Awards could have cost $2.5 million. Plus his total awards show performances, radio-sponsored concerts, and other promo events could be over $2.5 million. Read more here.
She's wearing what seems to be a flight suit: is she a lost pilot marooned on an alien world? We don't get any clear narrative, but whatever is going on, her dramatic glances intimate some pretty serious emotional turmoil. 'It was pretty DIY," said Tinashe of the video shoot in an interview with W Magazine. 'It wasn't a big production or anything." Tinashe financed the video herself: 'I don't like to sit around waiting for people to do things for me. So when I know my label's not going to produce music videos, I'll either make them myself or I'll find people that I think are cool and reach out to them directly. I'm like, 'Fk it. I'll just do it.'" The shoot pushed her to her limits: 'You have to fix your own hair, there's no catering, and there's no bathroom, but the challenges became benefits in this case, because they made the video a whole lot grungier. I was incredibly dirty, really dragging myself through the dirt. And it wasn't like I could shower before I had to drive home." Watch the video here.
Murphy promised a season five clue that was "arcane" but "very purposeful." Turns out, the clue was the recurring top hat. Entertainment Weekly reports that it was meant as an Easter egg, pointing viewers to the 1935 film Top Hat starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, which is set in a hotel-Hotel is the subtitle of season five of AHS. And the Lady Gaga connection? Astaire and Rogers duet on a song written specifically for the film called "Cheek to Cheek," which is also the title of Gaga's duets album with Tony Bennett. The two, however, are separate projects. As Twain explains, she won't be playing any of her new material on the road. "I want everyone to hear the hits," she tells Radio.com. "When I go to a show I want to hear songs that I know. So I won't be introducing any of the new songs from the new music in this concert." Which isn't to discount her excitement for the new music she's working on. "The songs are going great," she says enthusiastically. "I've been putting them together for a really long time now. They've been whirling around in my head, so I've got a pile of things, way too much for one album." While Twain says she's in the studio and the "record is on its way," she explains that it's difficult to vividly describe and categorize the sound of the new material. "It's hard for me to put my finger on it; I don't know how to explain it," she confesses. "One of the producers involved, we were talking about how to describe it in words and he said, 'This is soul. This is soul music.'" Twain wouldn't reveal the producer she's working with, but she did agree with his 'soulful' explanation. Read more here.
The band has already revealed the first single, "What Kind of Man" from the album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, but also revealed additional tracks "St. Jude," "Third Eye," and the album's title track. According to NME, she told the crowd that the title track was recorded in LA "on that day I got you [pointing to collaborator Isabella Summers] that outfit and we dressed up as Prince." Adding, "It was the first song that was written for How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and it means a lot to me. It's incredible to be able to play it for you for the first time." The track, which you can listen to above, has her starting with the line, "Between a crucifix and a Hollywood sign" and includes some of those horns we heard in the album's trailer. Not to mention some very soulful backup singers. On "Third Eye," a song she tells the crowd she thought was for someone else, but was probably for her--if you know what she means--has a stomping kick drum, more horns and a soulful feel. With "St. Jude," she says she was followed by "storms, real ones and emotional ones," and the song is definitely a little more reflective then the others. But don't worry, the horns find their place. Watch the title track, "St. Jude," "Third Eye" and "What Kind of Man," respectively here.
Leto revealed his shocking new hairdo at a Balmain fashion show in France, which coincidentally is the same place where Kim Kardashian debuted her own surprisingly platinum blonde hairstyle. We know that Leto's clean-shaven new look is in preparation for his role in the upcoming movie Suicide Squad (director David Ayers posted the first pics of Leto's short hair), where he'll be following in the massive footsteps of the late Heath Ledger by portraying the Joker. The new coif is quite reminiscent of Leto's look in the 1999 movie, Fight Club. See the photo here.
