Day in Pop Report for 04/14/2015
They report that Bieber had the run in with security during Drake's set after the pop star attempted to use the "artist's entrance" to avoid being surrounded by fans. The pop star reportedly showed his wristband and said that he had been invited by Drake. A staffer then reportedly agreed to escort him to the artist's area and as she was escorting him "security came up and put him in a chokehold", according to the report. They report that Bieber's team then "got into it with security" and he was asked to leave the festival. Watch video of the altercation here.
They report that Nelly's coach bus was stopped for not having the proper stickers and a state trooper allegedly smelled marijuana. The Tennessee Highway Patrol told ABC that the bus was then searched and troopers found "crystal-type rocks that tested positive for methamphetamine" marijuana, drug paraphernalia and handguns. The 40-year-old-star and another passenger Brian Jones, 44 were arrested. Nelly's attorney, Scott Rosenblum says in a statement to the news outlet, "Nelly was one of several individuals that was on a tour bus that was stopped and searched while traveling through Tennessee." Rosenblum went on to say, "We are extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered." The joke focused on something fans probably don't want to think about: the possibility that the four guys could eventually replace Zayn in the lineup. Of course, the remaining 1D-ers, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Liam Payne, have said they have no plans to find a new member, but who can help but joke about the prospect? Certainly not Amy Schumer, who poked fun at another big announcement that happened Sunday. "Of course, I have to mention the big news today," Schumer told the crowd. 'After months of speculation, Hillary Clinton finally announced she's taking Zayn's spot in One Direction. The first woman in One Direction. I never thought I'd live to see the day!" Yeah, Directioners weren't into it. Even tweeting their disapproval. See some of the tweets and watch Schumer's joke here.
The tour will kick off at Houston's Toyota Center. Currently, the short jaunt is set to wrap up June 5 at a show that was already announced: Governors Ball in New York. Detroit, Chicago, Montreal and his home base of Toronto will also get visits. Drake is out supporting his If You're Reading This, It's Too Late release, dropped online in February. A physical release of the mixtape/album will be available April 21. An additional album, Views from the 6, may be out this year, too, but little has been revealed just yet. See the dates here.
The No. 1 chart hits on "#1 To Infinity" will range from her 1990's tracks "Vision of Love" and "Love Takes Time" through to 2008's "Touch My Body." The set will also include a new single, "Infinity", which will see its premiere on April 27 with a video directed by Brett Ratner. The album arrives in sync with the launch of Carey's Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which opens on May 6. See the track details here.
"I was thinking about my own self-destructive side, and how you can make something only to tear it down," says singer Florence Welch about the new single. "When you're in that whirlwind, you often end up breaking the thing you love the most." Due June 2 in North America, the follow-up to 2011's "Ceremonials" was recorded throughout 2014 and produced by Markus Dravs (Bjrk, Arcade Fire, Coldplay) with contributions from Paul Epworth, Kid Harpoon and John Hill. Florence And The Machine performed at Coachella on Sunday and will play there again on April 19, followed by a series of festival appearances in June, including New York's The Governors Ball, Bonnaroo and Bestival Toronto. Written by Madonna, Jason Evigan, Evan Bogart and Sean Douglas, the track follows the Material Girl's latest project's lead single, "Living For Love." "Rebel Heart" debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 upon its release last month with opening week sales of 121,000 copies. Her thirteenth studio release currently sits at No. 57 on the Billboard 200 after 4 weeks on the chart. Watch the video here.
But the story of the duo's pairings is not over yet. Eminem is the only feature on Yelawolf's upcoming new album Love Story, and today brings a full stream of that song: "Best Friend," was released Monday (April 13). "Best Friend" has some definite Everlast vibes, Yelawolf crooning the verses and chorus with a laid back vibe over a mid-tempo beat. The song takes off when Em joins in on the bridge, contributing a double-time rap that graduates from subdued to fierce, slowly rising in its intensity from start to finish, Em at a forceful yell by its end. On Sunday night's episode of John Oliver's HBO talk show, he brought out Bolton to croon a new song written about tax season. It starts off innocently enough, with delicate piano and Bolton's croon of "I could hardly believe it/ When I heard the news today," seemingly straight out of some sort of Lee Greenwood-esque patriotic anthem. After awhile, two things are clear: first, this is a parody of "How Am I Supposed to Live without You?"; second, it's a love letter to the IRS. "But we need you real bad/ Though it's clear nobody likes you," Bolton sings. "You're the anus of our country, don't you know?" Read more and watch it here.
"It's such a big deal," Hunt tells Radio.com of his nomination. "It's such a morale boost for the team and everyone who has been working so hard to progress this whole project and everything that we're doing. Not that we're down and out or anything, we've had so many really cool things over the last several months." Hunt added how great it was to get an endorsement from the ACMs and the fans that voted. While he's had what he calls "little victories" to celebrate throughout the year, he said the ACMs is something he's really excited to be a part of. "I feel like we are very new to this world and we have a long way to go and definitely still have to prove our being worthy of belonging," he says humbly. Read more here.
Ant-Man will be in theaters this summer July 17, and the first trailer was just released today. The film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (the Ant-Man) and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym (the creator of the Ant-Man suit who in the comics was the original Ant-Man, but that doesn't appear to be the storyline here). Ant-Man also features Evangeline Lilly, Judy Greer, Bobby Canavale and T.I.It just might be the summer's 'smallest' blockbuster. But that doesn't mean we're not excited. Watch the trailer here.
The sword was a gift from a New Zealand radio station who knew how much he loved the show. And, it's safe to say, that Sheeran was not expecting this at all. He's so genuinely excited about opening it, even uttering the F-word. "This is like one of the best birthday presents I've ever got," he said before noting he wanted to get the real Jon Snow, actor Kit Harington, to autograph it for him. Sheeran was so excited about the gift, he later took to Instagram to say "it's the best thing that ever happened ever." Watch the video here.
Every performance has to be a challenge, both for him and his audience. "Every night before I go on stage, in front of me, there's a mountain that has to be climbed. There's no easy way around it, I have to make the climb." For a guy who spends some 120 days a year touring, it's exactly that kind of challenge that keeps the process exciting for him, night after night. "It's never been about 'putting on a show,'" Bentley says of playing live, "it's about going through this metamorphosis." A different set of challenges faces him in the recording studio. But as he found out with his most recent album Riser, that can also be extremely rewarding. The work he put into that album obviously paid off. Not only has it been chock full of strong songs ("I Hold On" and "Drunk on a Plane" both reached No. 1, and "Say You Do" is getting close), it earned an Album of the Year nomination at the 2015 ACM Awards, one of seven Bentley received this year. "It's a really weird deal," Bentley says. "Seven is my lucky number, it's on my guitar picks. This is my seventh album. And to have seven nominations is huge." Read more here.
'You'll See' came as a response to jokes and doubts. My buddies have joked about me being afraid of commitment for years - I have trouble choosing from an expansive fast food menu. However, they seem to think that's indicative of my love life as well. I've always taken things a little too personally, but I'm usually able to bottle it up until I can get to a guitar. At the time I wrote 'You'll See' I was in a long term relationship and I think everyone was wondering if it would transition into marriage or not. As things go, it didn't, but the song is my way of saying that when things are right, I won't hesitate. It's also one of my songs that directly mentions what I do with myself when I'm not strumming for strangers; raising grass fed organic beef on my Great Grandfather's farm. Cattle seems to be a bit of a clumsy metaphor for a love song, but I've always seen parallels. For 'You'll See' I couldn't get the thought out of my head of a cow's life on the range versus the farm. Sure the range is a great wide expanse with endless opportunities, but there's got to be something comforting about always knowing where the good creek is and never worrying about not having a safe, grassy field to bed down in. There's a good possibility I just read too much into it, but regardless, it birthed a song. The unknown tidbit about this song is that it inspired the album title. On the way home from the studio one day, I was playing the day's mix for my mother. When it was over she was saying how much she liked the line "...just like a bluebird on barbed wire", only she bungled it and said "Balanced On Barbed Wire". It was a perfect representation of where I am in my life, and where many of my friends and neighbors are as well. Walking a tight rope that twists and turns and makes you jump every so often just to avoid being nicked. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and watch him perform it here and learn more about the album right here!
