Best New Artist The Darkness antiGUY, Hobo
They gave the music world a nice swift kick in the rear in 2003 - antiGUY Touching yoo-oooooooo-oooou! What can I say about the Darkness that hasn't already been said on this site or any other music publication. Justin Hawkins' falsetto rocks, and the band abuses metal clichés to the point of sheer genius. Dan Grote Our

Dizzee Rascal Tim Byrnes
19 year old Brit phenom Dylan Mills brilliantly deconstructs hip hop on Boy In Da Corner', where the new Shakespeare raps like quicksilver money amidst the most blissed out cacophony this side of Sonic Youth. Tim Byrnes Listen to samples and Purchase this CD online
Nightrage DeadSun
Sweet Vengeance is a formidable full length debut--- definite potential in this outfit. Verily, a Metal band to watch. -DeadSun Listen to samples and Purchase this CD online

Hot Hot Heat Dan Grote
The best straightforward pop rock album of the year, hands down. The hooks are addictive and the lyrics are fun without having to rely too much on the gimmickiness of the band's retro new wave nostalgia. Listen to "Bandages," "Oh Goddamit!" and "Talk to Me, Dance with Me." Dan Grote Listen to samples and Purchase this CD online
Pleasure Club Keavin
After experiencing a live show from Pleasure Club, I now know what people must have felt the first time they saw The Stooges perform. The revolution has begun...- Keavin Listen to samples and Purchase this CD online
The Mars Volta - Scott Slapp
ATDI broke up for a good reason and thank God they did! -Scott Slapp A grab bag of all the good stuff and then some! - antiGUY Nothing else this year rocked as hard, or as strange, as this CD. Powerful. Tribal and maddeningly eclectic, Comatorium takes hardcore into the 21st Century with intelligence, grace and the sense of daring so often missing from most modern bands. Tim Byrnes Fans of now defunct intelli-screamo band At the Drive-In had their minds blown by this album-long suicide tale set to free jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms and two afroed geniuses. Listen to "Eriatarka" and "Cicatriz Esp." Dan Grote Our

Speak:
Posted by Anti-Darkness: WTF is up with all the queen comparisons? None of the Darkness songs I've heard sound anything like Queen, and the lead singer sounds nothing like Freddie Mercury and everything like Shakira. And they certainly aren't anywhere near as good as Queen.
Posted by solitary: ATDI was one of my favorite bands - I was lucky enough to see them live just before they broke up and they were flat-out amazing. Given the inevitable comparision, The Mars Volta has yet to disappoint. 'De-Loused in the Comatorium' is an album that has been in heavy rotation since I bought it. Cedric's voice has always been strong, but his voice on this album (although Geddy Lee-ish at times) blows me away.
Posted by Joie: The Darkness. I'm an avid fan of Freddie Mercury & Queen, and The Darkness just revives that era (not that I'm that old) all over again. They're bringing back good ol' Rock and Roll, with style!
