Dec. 3, 2019 - Capricorn Sound Studios Rebirth Celebration - Macon, GA
Macon, Georgia has an incredible music history and a big part of it is thanks to Capricorn Sound Studios where the Allman Brothers Band, Elvin Bishop, the Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie, the Charlie Daniels Band, Livingston Taylor, Bonnie Bramlett and many others recorded in the 1970s. Circumstances caused the studio to cease operations, but now after a $4.3 million renovation project the studios have reopened as Mercer Music at Capricorn, a venue that also features an additional studio that'll accommodate orchestral recording, film scoring and live performance as well as an interpretive space that tells the story of Capricorn and Macon's musical history through artifacts and interactive digital exhibits.
The celebration will be packed with fun, beginning with a free outdoor concert performed on a stage behind the venue that'll run from 2 pm till 6 pm. Performing will be Mercer's Robert Duffie Center for Strings and the Otis Redding Foundation's DREAM Choir, Jimmy Hall (of Wet Willie) and friends, the Robert Lee Coleman Band, Chris Hicks from the Marshall Tucker Band, Magnolia Moon, and Caleb Melvin of Hindsight. Tours of Mercer Music at Capricorn will also be offered and will be free.
Another concert will take place at 8 pm; this one is a ticketed event that will happen at the Macon City Auditorium. Scheduled to perform are Chuck Leavell, the Randall Bramblett Band, Jimmy Hall, original Allman Brothers Band member Jaimoe, Taj Mahal, John Bell of Widespread Panic, Tommy Talton of Cowboy, Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, Marcus King, Brent Cobb, and Duane Betts of the Allman Betts Band.
