Although many of these songs feature socio-political messages, perhaps the best track doesn't have any of these elements at all. Built upon a driving, folk-rock-ish acoustic guitar riff, "Fairfield, CA" is all about a girl from that particular part of the state. The guy remembers many things about this memorable girl. Pretty much everything except her name.
The album's title is like current event moniker. U.N. Article 14 states, "Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution." It's not difficult to comprehend how this title is related to the U.S. border and its proposed wall between Mexico and the U.S. Whether American High is singing about borders between countries or the separation between a boy and a girl, its messages are mostly upbeat and a pure joy.
