Jesus Rocked The Jukebox

.
Subtitled Small Group Black Gospel (1951-1965), this two-disc set contains 40 tracks from acts like The Soul Stirrers, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Silver Quintets, the Staple Singers, the Detroiters and many others. And like the album title indicates, these songs may be bringing the Good News, but they rock it up pretty good too; cuts like "People Don't Sing Like They Used to Sing" by the Original Blind Boys, "Living for My Jesus" by the Happyland Singers and "After While (Take 8)" by the Pilgrim Travelers are as fervent with their dance floor grooves as they are with their joyous message. These gospel cuts feature elements of pop, doo-wop and soul and are mostly drawn from the vast catalogs of legendary labels Vee Jay and Specialty.
