Bad Reed - Bad Reed EP

.
"Punch It" includes the line, "Now we see/Through a glass darkly," which makes one wonder if there might be something spiritual going on with Bad Reed. Sydney Sollazzo, who also plays keyboards with the act, voices these words. The group has been compared with acts ranging from Alabama Shakes' soul music update, to the progressive sounds of A Perfect Circle. But to these ears, Bad Reed is much closer to a simple, straight forward rock act.

A song like "Slackjaw Romance," off the act's three-song self-titled EP, sounds like it could have come from almost any period in the rock era. In fact, one could easily imagine the song being played in the background of a Happy Days episode. However, "Cassava" combines late 60s jam music with modern day post-punk.

It's been often said that the best things come in small packages, and so Bad Reed has done us a good deed in supplying this brief, three-track introduction. Although not always easily described, this snippet of sound is never difficult to fully enjoy.
