The Torn Images - Reviver
It's Arabaca's voice, which would have served him well back in the grunge heyday, that gives this music a sound closer to Seattle, Washington than to anything across the pond. "Nearly Lost You," for instance, features Arabaca singing in a tortured, pleading voice that immediately brings Kurt Cobain to mind. If you listen closely to "Blind Fascination," you can even pick up a little Axl Rose in his tone.
The group reveals its prettier side with "Life On a Standstill," which is built around a gentle strummed and echoed electric guitar part.
Reviver is a good album, that would have been even better if Arabaca didn't sound so much like he's grinding it out. It's as though he's trying just a little too hard, instead of simply letting the music come to him and through him.
